My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

I did it today! I have tried many times before but finally today was the day. This was the last attempt of the day (there were 4). It always seems like the first group has a flier (nerves maybe???).

Anyways the groups were as follows: (these differ slightly than the photos as it is tough to hold calipers and take a photo)
1) .404
2) .221
3) .362
4) .454
5) .459

The gun is a CZ 452 Varmint and the only mod is a yo-dave trigger kit. It is topped with a Bushnell Banner 6-18 AO. I shot off the bench with a Harris bipod upfront (with pod-loc) and a Triad Tactical Wedge bag in the rear. I didn't take a pic of the set up as I didnt think I made it (please forgive me).

thanx. I am going to try it with plated ammo. Probably CCI mini mags. haven't decided witch one works better, the 40grn solids or the 36grn hp. I am leaning towards the 40grn pills.

I have shot a group that was probably .125 once with it. Maybe .150 I didn't measure it, but it as one hole, not ragged, not clover shaped, basically round. I thought I missed but it was in the middle of the paper. If I wasn't using CCI ammo I would have considered a squib, or other malfunction that didn't even get the one or two of them to the target.

I haven't been shooting from a rear bag either, just a front one, or a bipod. I suspect I can tighten things up with a rear bag.

I think I did it today, a little bit hurry, only 1 hour to do it, shot 4 5Xgroup, only one barely qualified.
Rifle is a NS522, pillared, free-floated and action bedded, changed the trigger spring with light pull.
Scope is a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30X50.
Ammo is Eley practice.
Indoor bench and outdoor target.
1. 0.499
2. 0.468
3. 0.280
4. 0.342
5. 0.468
Best: 0.280
Average: 0.411

Thanks, Underthegun. For this challenge, I really learned a lot, both understanding the rifle and shooting, and I will keep trying with my other 22lr:). I really enjoy it.

I measured your individual bullet holes at .22 on screen.
Your measuring system and calculations leave something to be desired so you should find a caliper.
Beyond that, IMO, your .499 is actually over .5.
I went back to my entry #176, and because I was testing ammo and there were other groups on the target, it does not qualify.
And neither will this one but it still sits on my desk.

I just converted the measurement of the first group of Arwho's pictures. I got:
11.5/16" = 0.71875"
0.71875" - 0.22400" = 0.49875"
To me, it all looks fine. Did I make a mistake in my calculation?

My above target was shot on "Card Stock" which leaves a well defined hole. With a Caliper, they measured 0.19. 0.224 is really extending the figures.
However, once I was able to capture your target and measure the groups with "On Target", your 0.499 came in at 0.496 using a hole measurement of 0.21.
CT often has their calipers on for $10 - 12.
Keep shooting. Even with a 40X, one will often get away but that does not deter me from going back.
There are always variables but wind, humidity and temperature are not your friends.

Ok, I think I should get a caliper sooner or later.

Just a side note.
I'm kinda surprised that Cooper owners haven't tried the challenge yet. Those rifles should shoot 1/4" @50 yards by factory standards.
I think it means that I must buy a Cooper. :runaway:
