The best solution to that gamble then is to wait 2 years. In two years time enough people will have bought, tested and found all the bugs and figured out how to fix them. Then we'll know the answer to the "gamble".
firstly, if you're seeing 10 pages of posts you need to adjust how many posts per page you're viewing. I see only 2 pages on this thread. Second, I agree with your stomaching of restricted when NR options are clearly available. For me its the shorty M14!

Realistically the majority of people interested in the mh will get a review on it before they buy, the first 75 people should start taking delivery soon and we will know right away exactly how good it is,,, other than longevity
That's what I've been thinking. The MH isn't really currently available for most of the population and by the time it is I'm sure there will be more than enough data to make a more informed decision. What I consider "taking chances" is buying a restricted rifle now with the MH on the horizon. I'm going to wait a little longer and see what pans out with the MH before I gamble and buy a restricted rifle with a proven track record.

Exactly my point, might as well wait and see and potentially put money in a very nice nr semi rifle than put money right now on a restricted KAC SR25 or DPMS G2
I think waiting is the best bet, buying an unknown rifle now and becoming a beta tester really is not something I enjoy (learned that from being one of the first to own a few different firearms in the past). There is also the new legislation coming that is questionable at best as to how our laws will change the status of different rifles and classes.
I am waiting for this as well, the MH I priced would end up at over 4k to my door and it was pretty basic as far as options go from the list (as light as possible with stainless barrel)
Agree'd except we won't see the MDR in Canada for at least 12 months, probably more like 24 months.
^x2 and with the reputation of ATRS on the line I doubt very much the Modern Hunter will be anything, but an excellent rifle capable of MOA or better.
Another very important and often overlooked fact is that the Modern Hunter is manufactured from the Canadian Co. Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply. So if there ever is the need for warranty work it will be taking care of quickly in Canada w/o the need to export back to the USofA or w/o warranty parts needing to go through the long wait of coming from an American Co. or other. This is a huge factor in my mind because with a rifle of this value and quality it's likely to be kept for a lifetime making any service/warranty needs an even more important factor.
Also with all the options available with ATRS's Modern Hunter (something unavailable in it's NR competition) and with the fact it's a Canadian designed and manufactured Non-Restricted Semi.-Auto. in .308 that appears similar to an AR (is even compatible with some AR products) what's not to like. ATRS is using many proven designs on the Modern Hunter and will no doubt have gone through strict and thorough trials to get it to it's final production model as they have a reputation of excellence in our Canadian shooting community to uphold.
We should all be complementing ATRS for going through the exhaustive amount of effort and patience to bring us all a NR Semi.-Auto. in .308 that will be an accurate, reliable and simple to maintain rifle (something the Canadian market does not have at the present time).
I'm not saying this as a Modern Hunter purchaser as yet, but as a CGN member proud of what another Canadian firearms company has come out with for our shooting enjoyment. With the annoying regulations we have to deal with this rifle is awesome and most likely would be at the top of the list if I could own only one rifle with Canada's current firearm reg.'s being what they are.

As a beginner gun purchaser, the thing I've noticed that gives me comfort (regardless of purchase) is that guns don't seem to lose much value?
The turdo libertar specter of banning handguns and AR's, this have to be taken seriously, keeping the restricteds herd to a couples of dozens until we can elect a majority CPC, another 5 year should permit to resume our restricteds purchases... JP.
Further reclassifications and prohibitions. I expect scary restricted stuff to be front and center on the chopping block as soon as the libs or dips hold the balance of power.
Ask Swiss Arms and 858 owners how 'valuable' their guns are at the moment. And then consider them lucky because their stuff was reclassified while the Conservatives hold a majority government.... at least they listened to our complaints and some (tiny) progress was made on the issue. Imagine if it was the libs or dippers in power.
