Booked Another African Hunt

Congrats for booking the hunt. Does RSA have a minimum caliber for dangerous game? If not, either the .300 or .340 would seem reasonable, but if it was me I'd take a .375 and figure I was set for anything. But to prevent that pretty .375 SAKO from being used as it was intended seems unkind . . . it'll sulk for weeks.

Actually several Dogleg, killed everything with 270 gn TSXs.....duiker to hippo.

There's the perfect opportunity for a direct comparison then! Take the .375 Ruger and you can test those Ruger/Hornady brass I gave you last year at the same time!

Yessir Doug, it has integral mounts on the order of a $3000 option, bases put in by Merkel from the factory into the rib. Would cut you a sharp deal on her you've certainly done me favours, and the Royal .375 Fl has made it redundant in the cabinet.

How to slide that one through...........African hunt AND a new double..........she ain't gonna buy, that I NEED it for this hunt, she's seen my vault, that just ain't gonna fly...........I'm pondering............

On another note, I requested a reduced rate for the wifey, didn't grind him at all on the price of the hunt, but I just cringe at the 250-300+ a day for non-hunting companions, anyway he came back at $90 CAD /day.......can't beat that and sealed the deal. I realize it costs money to feed and house a companion but 300 a day is just f***ing ridiculous, travelling in the same vehicle, sleeping in the same bed and she don't eat that much..........She ain't gonna come along hunting with me so he needn't worry about having to protect her ass, the most difficult task with my wife is having to entertain her for 20 days, and that will fall to his wife.....win/win !!!!

Ahhhh, well Douglas... we are on our final run... time is short... a few of the finer joys are to be savoured...

Picture this hunt with two Merkel's along, get some lion blood on the 470NE... load up some 250 TTSX's for that .375HH and do this thing in style... take lots of pictures... post for the enjoyment of all your CGN community...

I am certain Angus will treat you well...

It can't be about the money... if it were you have 178 pieces to sort through... this two Merkel set has got to rank well above many of the others. Nudge, nudge... prod, prod... ;)

Just curious there Sir Douglas.......how many pairs of scarpi's this gonna cost ya?

Seems we have all been over powering the fur with bigg'un cartoochies.
Been reading moose taken with the rimfires and such wee guns.
How 'bout taking the Pengwin with you and stand proud?
Think of the history in the making you would create.

Whodda thought?

Congrats on your decision no matter what ker-pow you take...........

So I guess I better take "The Real King, Holland &Holland's .375 Belted Magnum" and a 30-06, eh Gate?:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:
It actually may surprise you what is on the shelves in Jo'burg and Pretoria. Besides I never worry about such details, there is always guns in camp and lots of ammo. I decided long ago that I'm there for the hunt and the culture and what rifle I use is of little concern. It is always nice to use one's own rifles but much like a good pool shot, I can accomplish the task at hand with pretty much any rifle that is put in my hands.

Doesn't surprise me a bit what they have on the shelves. I converse regularly with several hunters from different areas of Africa. They even seem to have 375 Ruger ammo!!! :)

I feel the same as you do about the " ammo at local hardware store" mindset. Generally when people go on extended hunting trips they take steps to ensure a firearm and ammo is available, one way or another.

Yet we still hear the same old 30-06 and .375 H&H commentary. :)

Na 'Looky that's what taking her with me is all about.......besides she just spent 11K furnishing our new family room......no new Scarpis.
I have thought about the Penguin, but except for the Grysbok these are all big and tough animals.......with big and tough price tags, wouldn't want to feed my ego at the price of losing an animal or two. Would make the whole 23 cal project prohibitively expensive, as if it weren't expensive enough.

Nope... just living vicariously through your gun rack... and I considered that gun on multiple occasions, and had to slap myself down... if you buy it, the temptation is gone...

Oh, and boats & rum by the cask. Pretty well if a pirate would like it, I'm in.

I do seem to have a surplus of boats at the moment...........Have a nice deep hull 16' alum with a 20 hr 50 hp Merc on it, that's 20 hrs from brand new 30 years ago. Just had it completely gone through and working 100%.........I would deliver...........
