DOE *Department Of Energy 9mm

I've always wanted a DOE. Garrison mfg used to make replicas. Are we talking about the WA-TOM repros? They look very nice.

I do have some NOS DOE handguards that I picked up a few years back. Couldn't believe my luck, this was prior to anyone making copies of them.

These would be easy enough to have made here as well. Barrels are dirt simple. Pictures with measured dimensions of the guard/sight are available. The hardest part would likely be the hand-guards.

20rd mags look perfect on a DOE.

Surprised anyone else here knows that name. Yes, these would be WA Tom's barrels. There is also the option of importing just the handguards and sights which would be under the $500 ITAR limit.

WELL THEN LETS DO IT UP!!!!!!

Talk is cheap......lets get 'er done.

I'm ordering a forged lower in 9mm from GUNBROKER and will be bringing it in at the same time as the handguards ect.

Steve and Jason *IRUNGUN's...... YOUR MY IMPORTERS EXTRAORDINAIRE!

I'll be contacting you with the deets and just want to get everything in order before I send it all to you.

;) going to be needing some magazines too.

I was pretty into the retro forum on arfcom and he used to make repro Colt 607 stocks and forends. I picked up one of the forends which is really just a cut down M16 handguard with a custom handguards cap for the cut piece. At that time he wouldn't ship to Canada so I had to use a third party to buy them.

Actually I just noticed on arfcom that he was building these yesterday. What does he charge for the sights and handguards?

Maybe someone could do a small run of barrels up here, might be cheaper/easier for both parties. Perhaps someone that is looking at getting a couple of these for himself and has experience getting barrels manufactured. Cough! Simon, cough!

Totally sold on the concept

I realize that this isn't the DOE.....however I imported this beauty up through IRUNGUNS a few months back and if it's any indication of how fantastic the DOE might be Im completely sold on the concept.

I can't stop shooting this thing! Its completely transformed the kind of fun one might have with an AR platform

The picture below illustrates two 50 yard 5 shot groups with some of my homeloads. ;)

*the low flyer on the top target was actually my 5th shot high on the bottom one. *I got too excited when I saw the groups forming WHOOPS!

Ive been shooting for over 25 years.....and this one has really brought Joy to the household.

THANKYOU STEVE AND JASON!!!!!

I'd be in for one set, possibly two.

I have some interesting news.

I spoke with my contact in the States who makes the DOE replica barrel assemblies and he is willing to renew his DoS ITAR registration for the year if there is sufficient interest for a reasonably small run, say 60-100 units. Estimated landed cost would be $350-400 USD which includes the barrel, front sight assembly, handguards, and barrel nut; everything forward of the receiver.

This thread should be moved to the Black Rifles forum where it will get the correct exposure.

I'm looking at some 9mm AR stuff in the near future - if things work out (private sale, fingers crossed) I'll be in. Anyone know if anyone is making tritium powered Armson OEG's these days??
Last time I was looking at Police Ordnance's website they had the Armson listed as a Trijicon product.

Are there currently any Colt style 10rd pistol mags being sold in Canada? I know there was a few years ago but haven't heard them mentioned in awhile. Looks like 10rd mags are easy to come by in the US these days. I should have bought some when they were available but C Products developed a terrible rep before they imploded.

This thread has me wanting to finish my 9mm build that I started forever ago. Fun little gun.

10 round mags.....thats a great question!!! Who has the answer to that one?

I know for sure they are legit if the item is registered as a pistol....but what about for an item like this?

Its not riveted ....its pinned in. The blocks can be purchased from various places. Price range varies.

In some cases the correct shape is actually milled into the receiver as a unit built exclusively for this purpose.

If you go on gunbroker and type in "forged 9mm lower" you'll see a company that looks like it makes a high quality one for ...get this $125!!!! ;)

Im going to be ordering one once i gather all the info.

I know very well what the barrier penetration characteristics of 9mm vs 5.56 are, I just think they would stick to 5.56 if what they wanted was less overpenetration.

For reference sake I attended a FBI wounds ballistic seminar, and they are now withdrawing the MP5 & shotgun from operational use, they are also issuing 308 carbines to field agents & the DEA is just finishing its 308 trial.
