Shorten PAL Approval Times

just thinking on that - presumably you gave your buddy the cash, he buys it on his licence and holds for you legally etc - then when you get licence, he hands them to you and as there is no registry on Unrestricted - they simply enter your possession at that point ? - no need to do anything other than physical property handover?

Exactly, if the long gun registry still existedor if they were restricted it would be a different story. I was actually thinking to see how much i could buy of an AR without the license. I think i should be able to get the whole thing minus the receiver.

They received mine Jan.15 showed up online Feb.6 . I just might get it in there 45 day estimate

Mine was recieved on Jan 19th, so "in theory", it should show up online on Tuesday (the 10th).
I checked today and got:

"Mandatory information is missing or incorrect. All fields must be completed correctly before proceeding.
The form could not be submitted because #1# error(s) were found.

Error#1:# We do not have any information that matches this data. If the data is correct please check your application status again at a later date."

Not yet the range is outside and weather hasnt been cooperating. Cant wait.

Definitely a fun little project while waiting..and stuff you can actually have at home to work on.
I can see my self having more items put away at the shop while waiting..hehe

Btw have you fired your rifles that currently live with buddy ?

You didnt input the data right. Odds are you didnt check the checkbox

It's probably not in their system yet so they have no profile for you to access.

you should call first thing in the morning , every time I checked online previously it just showed up as a blank page, until it was processed

Application received November 18 2014
Online December 22 2014
Approved February 6, 2015
80 days total processing time, PAL (non-restricted only)
Now only a few more days until it shoes up in the mail...

Hoping that means mine is approved this week. Received Nov.20 in Alberta as well. RPAL

My update: Took my course on Oct 25/26 for RPAL. Waited for results like my instructors told us to. Sent Application in on December 1st express post with signature required. Miramichi received my application with results attached on December 3. Today (Jan 7th) It appeared on website stating that the application has entered the initial processing. I'm getting excited now!!!

Another update:.... As of today (Feb 9) no change in status for license...... :-(

I last talked to them on Thursday morning last week, I figure I will wait until Wednesday around 3-4 and start doing it weekly. Doing it at that time gives it a good chance if it is done that day (otherwise you might as well do it Tuesday afternoon) that you will know for that day and can get your references to call in time for that day and doing it on Wednesday, means it may get mailed out by Friday assuming it is quick to process afterwards.

One thing that hasn't been clear is the turnaround between your references calling and how long it takes to be mailed out. That seems to vary.

Its the not knowing thats the issue.

We could be approved today......

We could wait 3 more months...

As mentioned before the first time I called, she said everythign has come back fine on your applciation - we are now just waiting on data entry for your saftey results, call in one week. (i said shall i leave it two weeks.... she said no 1 week will be ok).......... When I called after that week - I was told to try again in Two weeks.. lol . - how does that even make sense.

Granted - the first person to answer the phone was lovely, and we chatted,
2nd one was a miserable robot. - weird thing was - she went off to check the application and took about 5 minutes, whereas the first person stayed on the phone and went through the file....

I honestly dont think the people we speak to know when the next stage triggers...

They don't. The guy I talked to was quite detailed. From what he said other than answering the phone the only they do is talk to references if they call and can process that portion. The steps before which is the creation of the application number, the attaching of your application and review of your application is done by another group. They don't have visibility into that so essentially the "call back in (insert arbitrary date)" is a complete guess based on what your application input date and how much of a backlog they have. They may not even know what the numbers are but I suspect they have somewhat of a basis week by week.

They need to update the system a bit to reflect where it is in the process. If the system actually changed during the steps to say something like
- Application number created, pending data import
- Data Imported, pending reference check
- Reference Check completed, pending final steps
- License mailed

they would probably get less calls in. Of course said modification means hiring in high charging contractors to do the modification which costs taxpayers money and no one wants more taxes especially when it comes to easing the acquisition of "puppy and baby killers".

it is what it is.... not much can be done...cant wait to bring home my Sig.

I think ill go watch another 10 hours of youtube firearm reference videos today... :) i must be 1000s of hours deep by now... haha

It's funny reading people who think calling all the time will speed up the process. I do consulting for the govt and can pretty much say that isn't the case.

This thread has been enlightening though. The thing I have got out of this is:
1. Send in your application and forget about it for a month and then check online
2. Wait another 35 days and then call to see if you can get your references to call.

I am on day 54 since application was submitted.
