Shorten PAL Approval Times

Let me know what they have to say to you, im thinking ill call back tomorrow and ask for the cfo directly

That may be the only way you'll get any other response other than "wait longer". Just phoned in and was told it's still being reviewed by the CFO and it takes time. Clearly MUCH more time than most other provinces, as it seems that many licences in Ontario and other eastern provinces are typically approved immediately after references phone in. In Alberta, the application doesn't even go to the CFO until your references are interviewed, And then takes months for the CFO to approve?? A little ridiculous in my eyes, since Ontario has a higher population and possibly more work for the CFO. (ATT's, transfers, applications etc) This process is so discouraging when trying to start a new hobby. As of today I am not phoning in anymore and not checking the status online daily anymore. Like someone said on this thread, the best thing to do is just send it and forget about it until they contact you, or until it shows up in the mail. RANT over. Lol

Yeah I doubt calling helps. But here in Alberta I just got my PAL in the mail today. Application was originally received in Miramichi on Dec. 11th I believe.
I think as far as the CFP goes it is first come first served but the CFOs are the wild card.
4 business days since I got "issued"

Odds are the CFO in the more populous provinces has more people doing the job. Or at least it seems that way. Looking at how the province feels about firearms I am surprised it is so quick.
I don't necessarily agree with forgetting about it. Looking at the stats it should be
1. Send it
2. Forget about it for 30 days
3. Check for application number
4. Forget about it for 30 days
5. Call to see if references can call in
6. If they can call, have them call. If not GOTO 5
7. Forget for a week
8. If changed to issued forget for another 2 weeks. If not call in then GOTO 7
9. If #8 > 2 Weeks call in

That seems to be pretty much how it goes. 8 and 9 are when the CFO adds the anomaly

I get it - very annoying..... we had wait 5-6 weeks to simply get our test results back here in Ontario and supposed to send them along with the app - although most send them after now...

Courses in the GTA have upto 3 months booking time...

Call them once a week.

I started this pursuit in Early October last year... just got approved today....will likely still wait a few more weeks before anything significant happens.

Congrats on the approval. My application was received in Miramichi 95 days ago. I guess for now its keep on watching YouTube video and figure out what I'm going to spend my money on that first day in the gun shop with RPAL in hand

Hey guys this is my first response so bare with me! PAL/RPAL received by the rcmp on Dec 8th 2014, website says application is being processed. I've called 4 times since after the 45 day waiting period. Each time I called I was very polite and but each time they asked me to do was call back in a couple of weeks because they are backlogged. Anyways I live in BC and it has now been 78 days since they have received my application and i was wondering if anyone else has either applied at the same time as me or has any recommendations!!??

Thanks.

I applied June 2014 and didn't get it till Jan 2015. Non restricted.

More to my application than most but still, it's a waiting game.

Dates line up with my experience so far.

Did you have your references call in or wait for them to call? That amount of timing i would guess they didnt call in.

No I didn't. I wasn't aware they could do that.

Mine was complicate as I needed to get police checks from abroad and all that jive but, the checks were sent with the application. They took the money right on time but then the whole thing went dormant.

I too lived the '3 Month PAL' dream for a while but it just didn't materialize.

Yeah probably because they were dealing with the references that called in. So that gives us an idea what happens when a person lets the process happen in its own time

Oh ok ha ha so they waited until the office was dead then decided to follow up on my application.

Anyhow, a friend suggested I go for a 'Restricted' ticket, will I loose my 'Non restricted' status during the upgrade?
