Sold all restricteds and I am out of the game.

It sounds like you have everything in the right perspective. I respect the OP's decision. What is ironic however is how other members here who frequently rant and rave about "freedom" feel compelled to insult someone who exercises his freedom in a manner in which they do not approve.

It is actually possible to be a gunnut without owning a restricted.

Couldn't have said that any better!

That is totally legit rationale. im guilty of becoming a little too materially obsessed in my collecting, and I can see it detracting from the more important things. I can't go full Budda and divest all, but I am trying to moderate.

The reason I did it is because I did not like what i saw when I looked at my own heart and how guns and materialism has gripped me. I want to be a good steward of the little money I am blessed with and to blow it on restricteds I can rarely use shows that my priorities are mixed up.

"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything." 1Corinthians 6:12.

That was my motive. The other issues surrounding restricteds and the inconvenience and costs associated with them only served to expose how much of a grip they had on me because of what I was willing to endure to have them gather dust in my safe.

I keep buying more; just got another four 12.6's last week. Must have about a dozen or so now. They are inexpensive because nobody wants them. If Justin gets in and seizes them I strip off the parts and sell them, whack the frames with a hammer and turn them in. In the meantime I get to fire off several thousand rounds of ammo.

What I see is people who do not respect his freedom to make the choice whether to own restricted firearms or not.

Everything is relative, you can pay 400.00 for a great bottle of wine, and it last one hour... JP.

I agree, will I do not agree with the OP's decision, it is his decision to make.
I also paid just $100.00 to buy a bottle of scotch to just drink it!

I can understand the OP's post. Sometimes having your life under a microscope is just too much to handle when you have other priorities. In this case it had become a burden to own certain firearms. If all it takes to get that big effin' monkey of your back is to sell what the monkey wants and lets you get some sleep at night then so be it. Sell away. It was not as if the firearms in question were turned in for destruction.

This thread has welcomed lots of new additions to my ignore list.

I know, I must have picked up 5 or 6 myself. It's nice when the turds*ckers all pile on isn't it? It make it easier to wipe out a whole flock of them instead of picking them off one by one.

I wonder if they realize that soon they'll just be stroking each other as no one else is paying attention to them anymore.

You know, several years ago I would have disagreed profusely with the OP and given the "Liberals won" speech, but living in the Calgary region where there are no ranges that are accepting new members close to where I live and the commercial ranges are very expensive (not to mention busy) I can kind of understand where the OP is coming from. What with ATT's, the commute I need to make to get to a "CFO approved" range, and the simple fact that I can't carry in the bush or shoot them at any of my favorite Crown Land shooting spots less than 10 minutes from my house (which, if they're safe enough for guys to shoot .300 Win Mag at, why not my dinky little .22LR pistol?) I can sort of see the OP's frustration.
While I don't completely agree with his thought process and am not personally going to sell off my restricteds, (I'll keep going to "CFO approved ranges", even if it means driving further), I respect the OP's right to do what he feels is necessary to enjoy the shooting sports safely and legally.

Actually, i think it's because not everyone can buy them vs not wanting them….I hate you 12.6 guys:)

^ this

I contemplated similar as I just don't have time to hit the range these days, and I sold the majority, but decided to keep a couple just to have... For the random day I'll get to shoot them, but more just to play with while I watch cool movies. How cool is it to watch Maverick while holding a Single Action Army, or a Ruger while watching Assassins... Or a PPQ Navy cuz I could in theory take it scuba diving and shoot a shark, while blowing out my eardrums no doubt, lol!

You don't have to shoot them to enjoy them, and you gotta have at least one AR on the books...

I got into this sport because I find it fun and challenging (competitive handgun and small-bore rifle). I do admit there are legal hurdles in place for gun ownership, and the on-going costs are high, but the satisfaction of shooting 500+ is quite gratifying. I am not living some wild west fantasy, or gearing up for Armageddon, I just like to shoot, and I enjoy the camaraderie of the gun club. When I no longer find it satisfying as a HOBBY, for whatever reason, I will probably do just as the OP has done. So deal with it ! What part of freedom of choice is not understood here ?
