my last post here on this thread, I keep hearing the word freedom,
freedom of choice is something you do complete unaffected and pressured by any political influences.
the op's decisions are affected or caused by political pressure, that's not a choice, he has little choice with the pressure he is under as he stated he felt weight off his shoulder now.
of course anyone can decide for himself what he/she is going to do, but please don't confuse forced actions with freedom of choice.

Well said and true !

I just don't get the paper weight thing, if a pistol is considered a paper weight to you. That means you don't enjoy shooting or collection anymore IMO. I buy them to target shoot, so the day target shooting inst fun anymore then I'll sell them and say they were just paper weights.

Unless the laws change drastically and there is even more hoops to jump through to own restricted, I know what I signed up for

So what changes for people that get sic of owning restricted guns? As I have heard that from more then a few people now "you will get tired of owning restricted"

I don't get it. Either restricted or not I go to multiple ranges to shoot , being practice or competions and I feel no weight on my shoulders at all. I think there is another side to this story.

I have a collection of restricted that I have not taken to the range for a couple of years now. I have arthritis in my shoulders and have suffered a back injury which makes it hard to walk around the range, I am looking at the situation and am going to go to the range this week. I am not going to let the pain win, especially when I have 2-3000 rounds of 9 mil,a bunch of .45's, .357's, and I have no idea how many balls I have for my 36's.This does not include I don't how much .22 ammo I have so damm it I am going to go and use it up and have some fun.

I sure respect the OP's position, but I think that the above post hits the nail on the head. His choice was certainly affected or influenced in a way...by the current regulations.

Everything is relative, you can pay 400.00 for a great bottle of wine, and it last one hour... JP.

But is it any really better than the $20 bottle of hooch? :p

From me hats off to you ... and for sharing ... sure it wasn't any easy situation in your case .. and nothing to be ashamed of. The owning of an NR is not the ultimate goal to achieve in life. They are fun .. but so are other things.

Funny thing is I moved from a somewhat large city to rural, after college 15 plus years ago ... and I have more fingers on one hand than I know (as in in visit with) that have an NR. II love mine .. and live very rural ... and occasionally fire off a few clips with the wife ... shhhh!

$400 plus a year for range membership ... wtf ... I pay $25 year.

^ this

I contemplated similar as I just don't have time to hit the range these days, and I sold the majority, but decided to keep a couple just to have... For the random day I'll get to shoot them, but more just to play with while I watch cool movies. How cool is it to watch Maverick while holding a Single Action Army, or a Ruger while watching Assassins... Or a PPQ Navy cuz I could in theory take it scuba diving and shoot a shark, while blowing out my eardrums no doubt, lol!

You don't have to shoot them to enjoy them, and you gotta have at least one AR on the books...

I do that too lol. I wonder how many of us do the same!

To the OP.

It's your choice and nobody should blame you for doing it. I know I had to jump through all the hoops to get my restricted toys and would never give it up. Good points about 12.6 situation from some of the posters, you have to have at least one in your possession...or else.

I have a couple of AR15s and a Norinco NP 22. The first AR was purchased just after that "IDIOT" went shooting up cops in NB, The second was purchased just after Mr. crazy decided to shoot Nathan Cirillo, and shoot up Parliament. They were purchased to strengthen the numbers of restricted owners in the country. Do I shoot them ? Sure, just not very often. Going to the range and having only 200 yards to shoot at, no exploding target allowed, dealing with other people who has questionable firearms skills doesn't really appeal to me. Its the main reason I purchased a CSA VZ58 non restricted. Freedom. I know plenty of people who would own an AR15 if they were non restricted. But they wont purchase one because they do not want to be forced to go to a range. They wont be getting enough enjoyment value for the cost.

So all in all I understand where this guy is coming from. Myself I have no plans to sell my restricted firearms, and if I did it would not be all of them. Maybe an Ar as I have 2.

I made a similar choice in 96..sold all my guns, thinking I could get back into it later. There were guns I sold that at tge time I didnt know I would never be allowed to own again. I should have kept one,as most are now prohibited. That is a mistake I will never make again.

Sounds a lot like me, sold them all 19 years ago ~1995. Just got back into them again and wish I had not sold some of them.

Either way its an individual's choice so I can't judge the OP but instead say congratulations on your choice.

Rossi Range Hand ... Hybrid .. may be in your future .. could not take it in the brush where I live .. but you will have the satisfaction it is not restricted ..

Have fun ..

I sold everything I had. Ammo, accessories, and my pistol collection. My circumstances and inordinate concern with more and better guns convicted me to do it. Tired of always coveting nicer pistols when they are nothing more than paper weights in Canada. it's a weight off my shoulders to be out of the restricted game. No more needless red tape. I'm off the reatricted grid. It feels good. It's been tough but I'm adapting to contentment with a shot gun and a rifle. My wife is happy about it too.

If you did it cause you just dont use restricteds and want to use the money elsewhere then whats the issue. Good decision! If you did cause your afraid of the anti gun people or the liberals taking them from you, then shame on you. Your just making their life easier.

I have no use for ARs myself, seeing as i cant have a 30 round mag and take it into the bush to shoot it, then I have no use for it. Our rifle range is busy so i tend to stick to the pistol bays and for shotguns i go out Tower road.

sounds to me like it is more of a financial thing ( for the OP) than being worried about the red tape. if he stays in the hand gun game he just wants to keep buying more guns and then you have to feed them. so far I resist the temptation to buy more and just enjoy the few that I have.

I didn't have any restricted rifles for a year, so I bought a pair of CQ-As. I made a couple of phone calls and that was it. Any stress is in the imagination of the imaginer. Obviously some people are given a hard time, but generally it is nothing. There is really only the confiscation thing to be concerned about.

I had a m&p9 a few years ago. Put a few hundred down rage with it. Got tired of all the red tape and bs that goes along with them. Sold it and haven't regretted it since. Unless something drastic changes in our laws I can say I won't be getting any others.

The reason I did it is because I did not like what i saw when I looked at my own heart and how guns and materialism has gripped me. I want to be a good steward of the little money I am blessed with and to blow it on restricteds I can rarely use shows that my priorities are mixed up.

"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything." 1Corinthians 6:12.

That was my motive. The other issues surrounding restricteds and the inconvenience and costs associated with them only served to expose how much of a grip they had on me because of what I was willing to endure to have them gather dust in my safe.

Sometimes we have deep stuff going on inside - but we tell a different story to explain it to someone else - maybe just to keep our privacy - the stuff about the red tape etc. is easy for anyone to see - but you are talking about heart stuff now.

A recent trip to Cuba with my wife was an adventure that gives me another light to see things in - including my gun hobby. Materialism and consumerism and such are easily excused on the surface - we don't lack for excuses, yet what do we trade for our little toy obsessions? I don't know - and it would take a very bright light to expose the truth.

The preppers talk of all the things that they need to survive, yet I have a hunch that the thing that will destroy everything that a man loves is not an enemy out there somewhere, but rather in the heart - the things that we don't easily give up. Some things just get a hold on us and drag us down - vices are like that - and "lawful" ones may be the worst ones to "master" us.

We all want our freedom to have guns and the freedom to decide - maybe some of us would like to have the freedom to decide not to have guns - not many of us would be free enough to make that call.

That went too deep - I better go back to my cover story: I own guns because I like the finely engineered and machined mechanisms and enjoy the skill development of shooting - and they are a good investment...................................... That's my story and I'm stuck to it - yet.
