Homestead range

Can't shoot restricted semi autos on the rosebud ranges though

Sure you can. Shot my AR as a guest next to the club executive (so I've been told).
Not pistols, restricted rifles are OK, but there is (was?) a minimum barrel length, like 12" or so.

Problem with Rosebud is that it is probably an "old boys club", sorry, don't need new members, try again next year...

I was going to join the Buffalo Target Shooters but then found out you aren't even given access (you're own key) and have to shoot when they are running competitions... not a great deal at around $300. Trochu has a range for all usage (except .50) but a few years' ago they stopped taking any members from outside of Kneehill County... apparently it is only city people shooting inappropriately out there so they're trying to eliminate them. Waste of a nice range as it is normally empty. With these kinds of examples I can easily see where all the Fudd hatred starts to develop.

That is incorrect. You don't get a key until we can see that you are responsible and that you respect the property and the range rules. Once that has been demonstrated (usually by coming to one of the MANY events that are hosted), you are more then welcome to apply for and receive a key.

this sounds like a really confusing range to shoot at! :)

No chit!!
Think I'd just as soon spend my $300/yr on ammo and carry on shooting wherever/whenever at wutever targets and distance I please at any of a thousand locations off of the Trunk Rd.,with no need for approval from any range Nazis.......and fwiw,I only live 1/2hr from Homestead.

Within the scope of a match, I would agree those members are quite unlikely to utilize semiautos.
However, Rosebud has silhouette which is well suited to semi auto use. Also, you can bet many of their members have semi-autos too within their gun collections - guess where they use them?

It is just more double standard - ones they set for others, and ones they live by.

Giving your money to the APRA is just one step up from giving it to the Collition for Gun Control IMHO.

And there is the most retarded statement this week folks.

There's a bunch of public ranges there that do not state non-restricted only. A couple of them do. But there are a couple spots where it is not printed. Nothing says I can't shoot restricted there.
Please be smarter then the average bear!!!! If the range is not CFO approved for restricted use then you can't use restricted there!!!! No public range is approved by CFO that I know of..
The gated range beside the homestead range is run by Buffalo Target Shooter Association. You have to be a member to get in there.. the price is reasonable.. you can take restricted rifles/hand guns there. You have to have your membership card visible while in there or people will call the cops on you..

Sounds like the kinda fun and friendly place that I'd like to be a part of......NOT!
Why is that?? We have issues with non member individuals sneaking in from the Homestead range, shooting up the range leaving garbage everywhere. Don't have range orientation, so they could walk across a live range and get shot etc!! I pay for that range so hell yeah I will call the cops on you if you come in for free and start wrecking my range. As soon as someone comes in they become a huge liability, danger to themselves and everyone else around. Look at the free range it is disgusting, people leave crap everywhere, people have lots of close calls etc!! There is a reason why it is members only!!!!

I'm only half hour from homestead as well. It would be so convenient! Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to shoot my rifles at an approved range without adult supervision. Whole bunch of BS.

Homestead is disgustingly dirty though. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Here's what you can expect, this is a public range area at homestead "complex"

Agreed. It is generally a Sh!tpit because of some inconsiderate users. This is precisely why there is a movement to close down the public aspect of the ranges.

Well said!

That's not the Homestead public range. It's where a bunch of yahoos have shot the #### out of everything and left their trash behind.

There was a club at the homestead range that would give it's members keys without forcing them to beg and suck up but the elitists in charge of the APRA didn't like that so they forced the CSRA out. No point in having a private club that just anybody can join, you need to maintain that sense of entitlement and exclusivity that the heads of the APRA crave.

No, that is not a public range at the Homestead Shootting Complex. There only two, and that is not one of them.

Most of you are all entitled dousch clowns,
Most everyone In here is incredibly ignorant to simple Canadian gun laws,
This whole thread hurts my brain and gives me a " the shooting community is doomed feeling."
I want to call out some people but I won't.
And hey #######s saying "he'll yeah I'd call the cops on you" how bout just not being a fucing #### and asking the person nicely to leave or holy sh!t god forbid the guy wants to take a look around before he pays since its god dam impossible to contact these range dicks.
Anyways you all should be ashamed of yourself for your sh!t attitudes entittled selfishness jerks you guys sound like if I was a new shooter reading this I would be very discouraged.

I don't think it is. I believe it is one of the many "ad-hoc" shooting areas that some people feel they are entitled to use.

Looking at it again this is another spot that is behind a small ridge just to the east of the road and down the hill from the gate to the Rosebud Club, cancer out there is spreading badly.

Craig, while I feel your frustration, a rant like this isn't going to make you any friends.

If you sneak onto one of the club's private ranges and are shooting there, you are trespassing. Do you even know if there are other people perhaps working down in the butts? That behaviour will get the cops called, it's irresponsible and unsafe. On the other hand, if you come in politely and ask to learn about the club / range, or come out to a visitor's day event, you will be welcomed. Don't expect to be allowed to shoot your own guns on the range at this point. I know it's not optimal but you have to start somewhere. Clubs usually vet new members because there are too many idiots who will wreck things if left unsupervised. Prove yourself responsible and you'll be golden.
