Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

Any one know of an importer who is bringing in the NodakSpud NDS-18s lower, it is said to be a direct replacement for the polymer lower receiver?

pay 350-400$

Unless you have a broken polymer lower or you own a now prohibited 180 I don't know why anyone would want to spend the money on the Nodak lower. You're taking a $1500 rifle and turning it into a $2000 rifle to fix an imaginary problem. There have been so few failures that I wouldn't worry about it until it actually happens. If you are unlucky enough to have it break at the front hinge then buy this.

If you don't use your rifle as a prybar or release the takedown latch and let the upper swing down and slam into the lower you shouldn't ever have problems. Polymer is not a negative aspect to a rifle, many modern rifles are built with polymer used extensively throughout, ever heard of HK? How about the Bushmaster ACR? I don't see any stories of those rifles breaking apart because of the plastic and they function fine in the winter without becoming brittle and breaking.

Shoot your rifle and worry about fixing it after it breaks, no sense fixing a problem that only exists on the internet, I've only actually ever heard of one person in Canada with a broken lower who swears it broke while shooting and was not a result of abuse. There were a few rifles made years ago that a bad batch of polymer led to numerous failures but Armalite replaced those lowers under warranty and as far as I know those were all US rifles.

Would you say you're lucky to come across one of these? and if you do, should you jump on it even if it's $1000? As long as you can afford it would you just be stupid not to?

If you find one for $1000 you just found the deal of the decade. Just make sure it's an AR180B or B-2 or you may not be buying the Canadian legal non restricted version which would explain the lower price.
These were selling for around $1400 new when you could still get them and since they stopped production they have been selling for up to $1800 used.

For $1000 I would buy another lol.

So would I :)

for change the grip lol and stock

While I have no complaints with mine the way it is you may be right, I think an MOE+ grip and an A2 stock would be nice but not worth spending another $500 to be able to do it. That's enough to buy another 1000 rounds of ammo and there is always the Stormwerkz stock adapter so you could change it.
Personally I think it's more than good enough the way it comes from the factory. If you want to change everything then buy something else.

Not sure if this is the place, but I did a disassembly video on the 180B in case anyone gets stuck. In my opinion, they're pretty easy to disassemble.

Nice, thanks for posting that.
They are extremely easy to strip but that vid will definitely help someone new to the platform feel more comfortable tearing into it.
For general cleaning most people can stop at 6 min.

So is there any way to find one of these for less than multiple grands or are they all crown jewel safe queens?
Nobody has figured out to make a clone yet? Not even parts kit with a stormwerkz lower? Really?

I don't see any for sale now but they pop up regularly on the EE, usually for $1400-$1800 depending what extras it comes with.
