Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

Never uploaded image before so I hope this works.

Cleaning the AR-180B the other day and noticed the bolt catch (I think that is what it is) has a wear mark on it. Notice it in the pic. Has anyone seen this?

What is that caused by? Am I OK to just file off the burr and Good to Go or should I try and order a new bolt catch? But if I don't fix what is causing it then it will just happen again. Or is this just wearing in?

Besides, where do I get a bolt catch in Canada? Is it the same as the AR-15 or no? Would Wolverine be able to get me one (where I bought the rifle from).

It has been flawless. No failures or jams once I got beyond the recomended 400 rounds for "break in" and even then there were only one or two.

Yay!! It worked!! I didnt re-size (sorry) but you can clearly see the burr on the bolt catch. I am just going to file the burr part off for now and see if it get worse or not.

Ideas???

I have figured it out. With a mag in the magwell, that bolt catch sticks up a bit and as the bolt comes back it would hit it sightly. There was also a small wear mark on the bolt. It still hits the bolt just a hair and as I rack the bolt back with a mag inserted can see the catch depress slightly. I think with more rounds put through downrange it will wear in a bit more and then no longer be a problem. Not that it really was in the first place, but just a strange place to see wear like that.

I was just wondering if anyone has installed a one piece AR scope mount on their 180b and if they had any luck clearing the rear sight?

I don't have access to my 180b for a month or so but wanted to order a one-piece mount for a Bushnell 3-10X40 Elite 3200 and was wondering if anyone either knew if a mount like a Burris PEPR or Leupold IMS Mark II would clear the rear sight OR what the height of the rearsight is off hand? I have a Stormwerkz mount so that raises it a bit. Judging by the picture below, it would just have to clear the "ears" on the rear sight:

Thanks!

I think this would be the best place to post this.

So, I've been on the hunt for a 180b for a while now, but I certainly don't want to pay the ridiculous prices induced by it's rarity. (I almost threw up when one was for sale near it's retail price a few weeks back, albeit it was in the states :/. Oh well. )That said, in my rounds of calling manufacturers and importers, one company in particular said they had considered manufacturing the rifle. But, since startup costs were high, they would need to see a lot of interest in the rifle before they considered it further. So, would anybody be interested in petitioning the company to manufacture them? The interest in a reliable, Non-Restricted, AR-Type rifle that is affordable and not to mention Canadian made is definitely there. Hell, I'd buy 3. What does CGN think?

I have one, and would happily buy a second. However......
If you look at the expansive 'wish list' that most posters would like to see on any new 180b platform, then the price may end up higher than people are willing to pay. It would likely have to be around the $1100-1200 mark and include an integral scope rail in order to draw people away from other slightly more expensive, but very well dressed non-res black rifles. If you actually make this happen, then I'll be happy to add to my fleet.

I would buy an updated one. I know it wont be cheap but yes. Non-res updated AR-180B black rifle yes. $1200 is reasonable. $600 would be way better like stateside but that wont happen. I won't if it's $2000.

I would buy a new canadian made one. I have been looking for one also, but I agree that the gun is'nt worth paying the premium for just being rare. Its not really collectable, but its a non restricted ar type rifle. If they did make them, it would be nice if there were a few new modern tweaks done to it, because it would help them sell really good.

Would the magpul assists cause any problems with the fitting of the LAR-15 in the AR-180b. As the LAR-15 is very short I am worried that it might cause magazine issues if I install the assists on the magazine linked below:

Duct tape + para cord = big army way ;).

Hope that helps if the magpul would get in the way.

Does anyone know if the safety selector from an AR is compatible with the 180-b?

I'm not talking about an ambi safety or anything; just a regular, 90 degree safety selector from an AR.

I would take 1 or 2 for sure.
How would we go about getting a list going to the company in question????

:bump:

I was bored and just checking Stormwerkz's website, and came across this:

In the rare event of a lower breakage, at least there looks to now be a repair available.
