Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

I have a sterling armalite ar180s commando carbine with 11" barrel. I am looking for a forend sling swivel and pin. Anyone have one?

I have a Sterling built AR-180 With a wooden thumbhole stock, the modifications were done by Parker-Hale in the 70's for the British military and Police forces as a Sniper Rifle.
I know that only 20 were built & 15 were sold to the Dutch Military in the late 80's. 1 was sold to a collector in New Zealand, I have 1 so there are still 3 Out there somewhere. If anyone knows of the where abouts of any of the last 3, I know of 2 American collectors who would like to buy 1.

2010 Shot Show news

I'm at the 2010 Shot Show in Vegas and in the Really Good News department, I stopped by the Armalite booth and spoke with their guys. The official word from their production manager is that the AR180B is not dead and they are currently doing a redesign of the rifle. They are caught up with AR-15 orders from the Obama-effect and now have some time to devote to other projects, therefore the AR180B is back on the drawing board, literally. Speculation from persons outside the company is that any redesign will feature a non-polymer lower and a picatinny rail on the upper. I encouraged them to bring it back, saying us Canucks are eagerly waiting for it. Lets hope.

thats good news indeed, did they give any kind of time frame of when they will start production again?

Anyone in Canada carrying parts for the AR180B? Having no luck. Looking to put together a spare parts kit in case of breakage.

I found parts numbers for an official spare parts kit as well as replacement recoil springs on the armalite website. Wolverine was able to order those parts as well as an armalite match trigger for me.

Optic Mounting on M.I. Forearm

Hey, first post, so please bear with me....
I've got a Midwest forearm on my Bravo and was wondering if anyone has tried mounting an optic forward on the rail, rather than on the upper receiver scope mount. There's a lot of chatter about how the receiver mounts don't hold zero well, but I'm not too sure about the forearm being any better. Just looking to improve my 2"ish groups if possible.....
Thanks. Glad to be on board.

Thanks Armedsask for the reply. It's pretty much what I figured. If anyone else has an opinion or solution I'd be happy to hear it.

BTW, I've also tried the Elite Machining mount available from Wolverine and it does a decent job, but it sits pretty high and is....kinda ugly. Hopefully when/if Armalite redesigns the 180B they'll include the picatinny rail. I'd be up for one more purchase.

Very good news indeed... but will it come in close to the prices they were going for before??? $1100 ish??

I'm back at SHOT again (this is January 2011) and tracked down Mark W. the president of Armalite. I asked him what's happening with the AR180B, if anything. He told me I could report to Canadian shooters that the AR180B is not dead. They have been working on a redesign including things like an aluminum lower, rail and an optional side folding stock. However, the project is currently "dormant" because other projects have taken priority. They have a limited capacity for design and engineering and have to go with the most economically viable projects first. There is no time line to bring the AR180B out of its dormant state. When it happens, it happens.

I encouraged him to do so sooner, rather than later and informed him that used rifles are selling for around double what they were when new and that in my opinon, there would be a huge demand for an improved AR-180B in Canada.

I like the AR-18. ArmaLite's new and improved 180B when it comes out finally will prove to be a success for Canadians as well as for ArmaLite. I intend to wait for the 180B instead of opting for anything else. It is lighter than a SA and will cost less too (unless it is sold for the inevitable Canadian price of $3,000).

I can wait patiently for it. It isn't a major priority but its nice to know someone cares about our money

Are these rifles still easy to find used (since they are non longer produced). l will be looking for one soon, not sure if it will be easy or very hard to find one. Anyone have any idea.

They come up on the EE from time to time. You'll be paying a premium for one though. Chances are it's had some mods done to it. New butt stock, MI forearm, etc.
