for the black squirrels

A Crossman .22 pump at 495 fps requires no pal, is quiet, and is not technically a firearm I believe, and is absolutely adequate to dispatch a squirrel. When we were kids we proved that many times.

You may also want to try rat traps. I recently used them in. Back yard where they were causing major issues with gardens, lawn, and wiring in the shed. Zip tie vertically to trees under branch cover to ensure birds are not caught. Little peanut butter and two weeks and thirty squirrels later problem solved :)

Be careful with that if you have woodpeckers around though.

A good point for sure. Was not clear about the branch cover I spoke of. Usually two bows joined at the end by zip tie like a wish bkne over the trap is enough to stop that.

Just ordered - saw earlier post - "Halfords in Edmonton sells a nifty rig called a tube trap".

I'll let you know how it works on the little buggers. Also about to buy a Dianna 48 in 22 as back up.

If you live trap a squirrel take him for a drive and drop him off at the house of somebody you don't like.

I did that with the mice last year--Relocated them to a higher class neighbourhood. They'll eat better there.

But those big grey squirrels?? I thought I'd won the war last year, but now they're starting another Spring Offensive.
"To arms! To arms!" :sniper:

I've got a Crosman Phantom in .22 that I use on the squirrels that get up on my deck, I use the FVSR if they're in the yard. The little buggers chew the crap out of everything, I had them in the garage. My place is usually a squirrel free zone, but they are coming on pretty strong this spring. Wasted 10 of the little buggers so far this spring.

Ja, that is the same Crosman I've been using. Best open sites in the armoury! Like fiber optics. Ack! But the rear sight broke off during a firefight, so now I've got a fixed 4X Stoeger scope on it. Works fine, if a bit of 'overkill'--my max range here is only about 15 yards of meadow before the treeline, but mostly I catch them at the (bird) feeder. If I tire of waiting for one I'll "cheat" by putting out a dish of bait near the trees. I'm targeting the big Greys and the medium 'Black Rangers'. I pegged off 23
of them last year, some with the Crosman and others with my .22 RF.
I've been nurturing the little Red species. They're here year round, they don't hibernate, and they're indigenous. IDK about the ("introduced")Greys. I thought I'd killed them all, but this week we've suddenly got a whole new crop.
Whoops! Gotta go--I've got work to do in the garden....

Tube Trap Update - 3 tree rats so far (2 grey, 1 black). The trap is a bugger to set right as you have to have the pan release right on the edge of the trigger, otherwise I'm just feeding them. Peanut butter works great, they can't resist.
