Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I did some searching and never came up with much...
Is there a market for these?
If so, what would they go for? Ballpark.
I ask as I know of someone with one (proper licencing) that wants to part with it (to someone with the proper licencing) but we don't know where to start- or if we can...
Any help would be appreciated (advise on worth and legalese- We are not soliciting anything, if done it will be in the EE)
Thanks

The infamous FAL! The first evil rifle in Canada if I remember right. As there are a very limited bunch of folks with the correct 12.X class the market is small. Depending on country of origin and condition the prices can vary from $300 to over a grand. I hate to say it but these firearms are worth more neutered than operational. Mine is going to my grave with me. No telling what the afterlife has to bring!

I remember turning down a new heavy barrel FN (commercial) with a bipod when they were non-prohib. Asking price was $1500 at the time, IIRC.
I had shot the FN C1/C2's for 12 years in the Army and it felt like 'home', but I was just getting into IPSC and that was draining the bank.

I often wonder where it wound up as a 'safe queen' .....

Seriously!? That is how much they sold for? Wow.

I remember seeing case lots of Australian L1A1's going for around that! The extinct Gunrunner paper out of Lethbridge AB always had interesting sales there. Anyone remember the guy in Matachewan ON that sold most anything out of his basement in the 80's? Got a sweet deal on a MG 34 back then!

Thanks for the info everyone,
Question though...
What do they go for neutered?
And what would it cost/Who does it?
Thanks again.

FN's have been evil since 1 Jan., 1978. Didn't sell for 2 grand before then either. Unless you were a complete twit and had more money than brains. About 1 grand or a bit less for a semi-auto(FA models were a lot more, but also more scarce.), as I recall, depending on the maker, condition and what came with it. A grand was great deal of money in those days just the same.

Mint L1A1 Australians went for $750, The Indian ones sold for $250-350 depending on condition. The few Canadian ones mostly came from Ontario PP and sold in the $11-1200 range.

Neutered ones sell from $350 to as much as someone is willing to pay.

I agree but I can't own it unfortunately...
Depressing for me is the amount of trips across town I have to make to get him set up on here and follow it through at every step to ensure it all goes well...
12MPG really sucks at times- even with these fuel prices...
I'll post some pics so at least I'll know exactly what it is and find out which 12x it is.

My first exposure to that little slice of the free market was a seller in North Gower, Ontario who called his business something like KATICK Supply. That was around 1980. He had a photocopied sales list with ex Yugoslav and ex Israeli converted autos. Everything from first model AKs from Lebanon, to 8mm Mauser Czech LMGs, and Central European surplus. At the time I was interested in AR10s, but had no money. Then of course the feds got all excited and started writing new rules.

If I remember rightly, they sold for 2 grand, years ago, when they were a non restricted firearm. :(

Grizz

A huge range of prices, depending on country and new/used.
I got my Indian Ishapore for $125 from a place in ON called Caina.
Advertised thru the Can Access to Firearms newspaper, in early '90s

Crown Surplus had a bin full of Australian junkers, 69. as I recall. Paid about the same as you, for my Ishapore. Gotta be the roughest FALs ever built. ;) Paid about 400. for my "Browning" LAR. at auction. Thinking that's about ball park price, given the exclusivity of the ownership club

I wouldn't mind another but as they are safe queens only I see no point in paying over a couple of hundred bucks, depending on model and condition etc.
