Best .22lr pistol?

Hello James,

How is the pull on the MP22? I'm thinking of it for my wife, but haven't had a chance to try one yet.

Thanks,
Amol

I'm on my 4th 22 pistol. I've had a Beretta neos, M&P 22 and a Browning buckmark. I just got a Browning 1911-22 and I've shot a few hundred rounds of different ammunition and not one malfunction! (Remington golden bullets, cci blazer, cci mini mags and even a ton of cheap Winchester 333). It's a very cool pistol -85% replica of an original 1911. my version weighs in under a pound at 16oz. It's a perfect size for a 22 pistol

The sights are the small 1911 combat sights, but I painted the front and have adapted to them, so now I'm hitting bulls eyes more frequently.

The stock trigger on mine was a little gritty...fixed by stripping and polishing the internals. The trouble was it was really frustrating for the first 500 rounds or so. Would jam and FTE at least 30% of the time. Then, all of a sudden...no trouble. I've put at least another 2500 rounds through it since with only a handful of FTF's...mostly with cheap ammo. Runs almost any ammo like a champ now. Clearly, there was abreak in period....maybe a burr somewhere...anyway, decent pistol...just have to stick with it until it breaks in.

A Smith and Wesson model 22A is a less expensive alternative to a 41 and shoots very well ...

I've heard that. I've also heard that some ranges use them as rentals which would seem to indicate they are trouble fee and durable. The front of grip mag release would take some getting used to, tho.

I have two 41's and have shot the 22A from a friend and was impressed with it's accuracy and take down is a breeze even better than a Buckmark

this is also something i have been considering for a while. i would LOVE to get a paclite or just one of the competition MK's but i cant. as a lefty im screwed and limited to what i can purchase. i have been considering wither the Walther P22 or the S&W MP22. currently im leaning more towards the MP22 since it is a little larger in the hand.

hmm I found the trigger was decent. I had it when they first came onto the market awhile ago, so I wasn't as picky about triggers as I am now. I still enjoyed the pistol when I had it. Mine was great out of the box, but maybe had to do with using cci ammo. I had the cci loaded "blazer" back when a case was still $200ish! and shot 5000 rounds without a single malfunction! was incredible. I tried other ammo after that and was sort of fussy. American eagle would constantly choke on it, so I sold that case

As previously mentioned by someone else here, avoid the suspect metallurgy of the slide for the Walther P22.

I'm sure a zealot will soon leap on my statement, but near here a shooting buddy had the slide disintegrate upon discharge.

The Truth folks!

So far I'm fairly new to the .22 pistol game. My collection consists of a grand power k22s and walther PPQ m2 22 and i really haven't had much success with either.

the k22s lots of light primer strikes on all types of ammo, some runs better than others but still frustrating, and then it started to not eject which is a recent development. Granted I got it on clearance so I wasn't sure what to expect, not to mention trying to find mags, parts, etc has been a challenge.

I had high hopes for the PPQ but I'm having feeding issues with it, they're not stove pipes but they're not chambering correctly. I bought at the beginning of this month and have only had it out twice so I'm not sure if I just need to shoot more through it and break it in or what, but I half expected it to work pretty much out of the box.

Now my friend has a m&p 22 which is made in the same factory as my PPQ and he has no problems what so ever with his, no ejection issues, no light primer strikes, it goes bang every single time the trigger is pulled. Now he's had this for a couple of years and I don't remember if he had problems when he first got it and had to break it in.

^This is what happens when you allow a company known for building airguns (Umarex), take over manufacturing real firearms. (Walther)

Edit: P22=Eurotrash

yea thats why im leaning towards the MP22. its a lot newer design, i like the internal hammer, and it has a much better reputation. one thing i really like about the P22 is the paddle mag release. i dont have to switch it around and 'normals' can use it as well. that being said, lefties need to consider everything. so little choice. as i said, i would have bought a paclite in a heartbeat.

Thanks, how is the slide pull? Also, any reviews on the Alfa Proj 215 .22LR?

Interesting, a bit of GSG hate. I love mine, & it is the best 1911 framed .22. There is a package you can order that takes out the bit of a loose fit of the barrel & greatly improves it. Dollar for dollar, nothing beats the GSG.

You will be disappointed with the 85% full frame sized Browning 1911 A1 .22. I own it too, and it, well, sucks.

The best 1911ish type .22 ever made is made no longer... that distinction goes to the double action CZ Kadet, which was a copy of their CZ 75B.

I've had nice success with a 7" Browning I bought too.

BrowningURX22.jpg My Browning URX .22 Very nice gun.

czkadet.jpg Picture off the web.... I regret the day I sold my CZ Kadet .22. But, like its 9mm twin, it was double action.

gsg22.jpg My GSG .22 close up. Yes, it comes with a screw in, but non functioning suppressor... for, uh, the tacticool fools.
