Savage 10TR le/military

I've been shooting Nosler 168gr and it's been fine out to 625, but got a bit wierd beyond that. Condomboy was able to reach out to 953m, possibly with Hornady Steel Match?

I have heard some issues about 168gr having trouble transitioning to subsonic speed... who knows what truth there is to it. I was using the 155gr out of Horny Steel Match and had no stabilization issues out to 953m, only problem I have with the Horny Steel Match is finding more

Finally done!

Thanks to Mister Donut for selling me the Mark 4 rings :). They look great on it, and fit amazingly. With the tax refund, Im deciding on better glass to top it, or better glass for a spotting scope.

I'll try to get some action shots and better pictures with natural light one day. Im no photographer, and have some pretty basic cameras - but it would be nice to get a shot like Mister Donuts :)

Just got a Savage 10tr as my first bolt gun (I'm venturing out of the battle rifle forums a bit now). I want to double check my scope mount torques. Anyone have any idea what they're suppose to be? I'm having a hard time finding info on it. Also, being a newbie coming from rifles that love grease, is oil the only required lubricant required on these things? ex: bolt lugs, sear are usually greased on my Norc 305.

Have them bore sighted or similar, test shot maybe before you get them shipped, a few of us are waiting for barrels as some were way out, like 3 feet at 100 yards! It takes forever to get them back too! Mine has been at the repair depot since November!

Just brought mine in today.
POI 30" above target at 100y.
The scope shot 50.9V last Sunday at 500m on my 10BA so it's not the scope.
The gunsmith said he will test fire it on Tuesday.

First, we all thought it was the pic rail threaded crooked but the repair depot said it was barrel runout beyond specs, meaning bent barrel basically, they ordered mine in January, but said Savage failed to renew import paperwork and it would take at least 3 months, well it has been much longer than that, not sure if I believe them anymore, either way it looks bad on Savage. These rifles were made at the peak of the buying frenzy in the U.S. My thoughts are Quality control was not what it should be and some bad ones got through, if they test shot these for accuracy, there is no way they would have been shipped!

I was about to order one, but these issues are freaking me out!

To those who have issues, do these rifle comes from the last batch, or a previous one?

Those available in the shops around seems to have been delivered to them in the last month or so.

I'm afraid to wait before buying one, and then they get sold out, but I don't want to get a defective useless rifle just before the shooting season.

Bought mine over a year ago and just shot it Saturday using factory Winchester 150 and 180 grain bullets. I have a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50. Awesome scope by the way. I also put a muzzle brake on.
The negative stuff first.
First off, the magazine sucks so I just top load. PITA to get the thing back in. Very picky.
Re-assembly takes some patience. You can't just tighten the action screws and expect everything to work. Hard to explain, but you have to make slow, precise adjustments with each screw (one at a time, back and forth) all the while testing the bottom bolt release to make sure it doesn't bind. PITA.
On a much more minor issue and for me, not really worth mentioning as I often take the bolt out anyway when transporting, it is unlikely you will get the rifle to fit any case with the bolt in the rifle.

Good stuff.
Easy to shoot. I am sure the brake helped however my 100lbs daughter had no problems shooting this rifle all afternoon.
Accuracy out of the box was terrible however quickly improved between cleaning. Actually there was a noticable difference within 20 rounds. I am sure it will tighten up some more however I ended up with a 1.5"MOA. More rounds down the pipe and better ammo will certainly get this rifle below 1"MOA.

All in all I am happy with it. I shoot it off the bench so the mag issue is not that big a deal and I am getting better at re-assembly. Before anyone asks, I am one of those fellas who likes to completely disassemble the firearm for a thorough cleaning after shooting. To each their own!

Sorry, didn't take pictures.

cheers,

I feel really bad for bobdbldr, and correct me if I'm wrong, but his rifle might be one of a handful (if not less) of bad examples?

Is it safe to assume that most folks here have had really good luck with them? I know mine was sub MOA out of the box, and 6 of my friends have 10TRs and they are all satisfied with theirs.

Absolutely,, most are good out of the box, I waited a few months to shoot mine and then found out that I had one of the bad ones and as I said before, that wouldn't be a problem except for the very very very long time it is taking to get a new barrel put on. The repair depot puts the blame on Savage who they say failed to do the import renewal paperwork, not sure if that is true but I bought it a year ago and still do not have it back. I suggest to all who want one, to have it test fired by the shop you buy it from which will eliminate the ownus on you to try and get it fixed! One other small item is the pic rail screws, some folks, including me have had the screws hard to remove or rough or almost stripped, my front rail screw looked like it was put in cross threaded! Great gun, just make sure you test before buying and take a close look at the rail and screws/threads!

That totally blows man, and I feel for you. I really hope you get it sorted out and end up enjoying this rifle to it's full capabilities. I'm a crappy shot, with no skill whatsoever and I give full credit to the rifle in getting those sub MOA groups. It almost feels like cheating, lol!

You'll love it when Savage makes it right for you :)
