Savage 10TR le/military

Thanks for the tips, surely it will help those using the tool. The way I decided to go is both free and doesnt ruin a case so its too late for me. I find it strange they used such an oddball thread.

There are two ways that you can eliminate the headspace variation.
The first is to use the Hornady headspace gauge to measure the difference between the base to datum line on the modified case and your fire formed case.
The second is to take a fire formed case which has a loose primer pocket and drill and tap it to be used as a modified case.
Use a "K" ( 0.2811") drill bit and a 5/16-36 tap.

Apologies if this topic is already in the last 57 pages somewhere...

Anyone bed the stock on there rifle yet? I'm about to do mine but looking for a pic as these accustocks are an interesting design.

I did a brief fly-through this thread and it looks like most are either sticking with the aluminum bedding in the AccuStock, or they've gone chassis. Post pics of your progress, it'd be interesting to see!

I'm waiting for the Cadex chassis I ordered, but if I had stayed with the original stock, on top of a bedding, I would have filled the empty spaces to give it more rigidity and remove the cheap "hollow" feeling, especialy the buttstock part.

YOU MUST POST PICS.......Droool.......

My only qualm with the rifle is the oversize 'tactical' bolt handle. It looks cool, but it's a bit much. I'm thinking of installing a standard size knob.

I think the Accustock is pretty good as-is. For a little more rigity you can install the bipod on the rear sling swivel which will apply pressure on the aluminum pillar closer to the action.

Then if you're still worried about potential barrel contact you can visually free float it by cuting away the plastic on the stock that surrounds the barrel so only the bottom with pillar remains. It looks interesting, and could definitely be done cleaner...

(This is not my rifle, but shows what I'm talking about):

If anyone is looking for Cadex chassis or rifles there is a company in Edmonton that is now selling them as well.

www.burton-tactical.com

Just looked at the website store and you might half to E-mail them if you are interested. looks like someone zigged when they ment to zag.

Man, that's pretty awesome looking.

BTW, if you're not a fan of the 10TR bolt handle, I'm sure you will probably have no trouble finding someone to trade with you :)

That stuff is dynamite! My 10TR shoots that ammo really well as well.

I was making hits at 1050 with it earlier this spring. Super impressed with it!

So impressed I went out and bought 300 rounds of it!

Cheers!

Tell you what i am going to have a hard time justifying 3000-5000$ dollars 308 precision rifle to myself if i can get .5-.75 moa with a 650$ savage....kind of ridiculous!

Yah, you gotta love the 10TR: best $640 I ever spent on a rifle. Once you come to terms with the tight chamber specifications of these rifles, you can really get them to perform
quite well. Some people need a fancy decked out gazillion dollar rig, me, I just want to shoot bug holes, I don't give a rat a$$ if it looks tacticool, or not.

I guess I'm a little late to the party, but this thread has me very interested in this gun. Unfortunately I don't see it on Savage's website at all. Has it been discontinued? or is the 10 FCP-SR the replacement model for the 10 TR?

You won't find it listed on their website (and lord knows I've tried), but there are a few retailers that do have them in stock in either 20" or 24" barrels. The prices seem to range
from around $650 to $750. If you are thinking about dabbling with long range shooting, the Savage 10TR is an inexpensive starting point; at least that is why I bought mine.

Thanks! Weird that they don't list it on their website. And yes, you hit the nail on the head, I am just getting started in Long range/ precision shooting and trying to do so without breaking the bank if I can.

Frontier and SFRC both have the 10TR in stock. I'm sure there's more retailers as well.
If your looking at the FCP-SR, be careful because they released a newer model which doesn't compare to the original.
