Shorten PAL Approval Times

I should of added that me and my refrences informed the officer on the phone that this was for law enforcement employment(CBSA)

Hi Everyone - first time posting

Ontario: PAL

November 2014 - Courses taken
Early February 2015 - Mailed to CFC with course completion stamped by CFO
Ferburary 13th - Received to CFC
March 10th - Showed up online saying "completed initial processing"

May 15th - Status still the same, Called CFC, was advised application is with CFO and to wait longer
June 5th (today) - Called CFC again, was told application was still with the CFO

It's been almost 4 months since date CFC received, and this is just for a PAL - any suggestions? I had to answer "yes" for loosing employment in the last 2 years, but as of now, I would have been able to answer No since it has now been longer than 2 years... could this be the reason it's taking this long? any suggestions?

yes, this is the reason it is taking so long. i had the same situation with my pal and rpal . anytime you answer yes to the personal history questions it adds time because the cfo has to look further into your application.doesnt mean you'll get denied though. i answered yes to every single question that application and i have my rpal now. they are pretty good judges of character. just because someone made a mistake or had a change in their life doesn't mean they are a bad person. unfortunately the only thing you can do is keep calling, id say once a week. eventually you'll get a worker who will put you through to the actual officer with your application.

I am sure it's been mentioned before, but when they say it has gone to the provincial office for further processing, try to ask to be put through to the provincial office when you call in. My application was at the provincial office for a couple weeks before I called in and asked them to transfer me to the provincial office specifically, and the provincial office finalized my application in about one minute while i was on the phone.

Thanks for confirming this! - The only thing that annoys me is If i were to apply today, I'd be able to answer no to every question... but it said two years and it was slightly under two years, thought it was best to be honest. Anyway - it's no big deal, I'm not in a rush to get it, It's just annoying to see others from Ontario already get theirs when they mailed their application months after me... oh well - I'm sure eventually i'll get it!

*Update*

Apr 6th - Application Mailed
Apr 13th - Received
May 4th - Appeared online
May 21st - Called to check status. Still in initial processing stage, no further update. (Day 28)
June 5th - Received letter that something was missing
June 8th - Called to given info and approved right away!

And now I wait for my envelope!

Wahoo :)

Anyone else in Manitoba getting the run around with their application?

Mine was mailed in February, and my tracking confirmed delivery of February 23. Showed online sometime in March as "received February 23" So far so good right? That's what I thought.
Called April 20 or so, and was told they needed to speak to one of my references. Since both my references live with me (daughter and son in law), I know damn well they made zero attempt to call either of them in that 2 month time frame.
Anyway, the lady told me to get one of them to call them to give the reference, since they clearly are too lazy to call, and it appears they had no intention to.
Reference calls the next day, all is fine.
I call back around the first week of May, and was told it was with the CFO now. Right on, shouldn't be long now right? I ask them to put me through to the Manitoba CFO office, where another kind lady looked up my file and said they've had it since April 22 and no indication of a process time frame. At least she was nice about it.
A week or so ago, once again I call back, directly to CFO office, where some prick answered the phone, and appeared very disinterested in talking to me, let alone look up the info on what the hell is going on with my application. Was again told it's with the CFO and he can't give me a time frame.
This whole process stinks to high hell, and I'm getting very irritated by their service, or lack thereof. June 23 with mark 4 months I've been waiting, with no end to the wait in sight.
Had I known this BS was going to occur, I would have done a charge back on my credit card on day 59, that would have gotten someone's attention. Too bad it's too late for that now, and I'm at the mercy of the lazy Manitoba CFO.

I posted a page back but we have a very similar timeline and have received very similar answers. Only difference is my application is in Sask. and they actually called one of my references beginning of May. If you don't mind me asking, did you answer yes to any of the personal history questions?

day 53 just called BC CFO and they said they don't have the application yet.. was transferred back to miramichi they said its about the middle of its process which could be as much as 3-4 months due to the higher than average amount of applications being submitted.. guess I have to hurry up and wait ..

I don't recall what the personal questions were, but I can tell you I am not currently in a relationship, nor have I been in the past 2 years :)
I have no recent violent past. One domestic violence charge from over 15 years ago, and a DUI from around the same time.
All of this took place in Ontario. I now live in Manitoba where I have been for just over 10 years, never an incident with the law.
Never been prohibited from owning firearms.
I have never seen a shrink, nor taken any meds for depression.

Actually it is the CFO who does the interviews

Not in my case it wasn't. Mirimichi had my app for almost 2 months without a peep, so I called and they told me to get a reference to call in. Once that was done and I called back, and they then said its with the CFO. Ergo, the reference was done before it went to CFO. They also told me it wasn't neccesary for me to have an interview.

FYI today is day 107 for my RPAL

You do not need your PAL to meet the employment requirements for the CBSA. You need to have passed both the CFSC and CRFSC exams and have proof of that.

Was yours a PAL or RPAL?

I realize that, while I was taking the course the instructors told me to inform them every chance I had that this was for employement tho, as for Brinks etc. We figured being that I was in the hiring process for law enforcement that it could potentionally speed up my application. Well hey; it worked because I'm on day 8 of waiting for the mail man
