Ruger Redhawk .45ACP/Colt 4.25"!!!

Rugers with the Hogue rubber grips are too bulky for me, I have a Redhawk with the old wood grips and a superRed with the wood inserts and they fit perfectly. My Gp rubber Hogues got the boot right away and I was so peeved at the Crappy Hogues that I spent a day and made some smaller sculpted ones out of maple, a 'bazillion' times better.
 
I wonder if this new Redhawk will take the full house 45LC loads that the Blackhawk models can. The same loads listed on Hodgdson's reloading data under the "Ruger Blackhawk / TC loads only" data.

I too am very interested in this new model. I wonder who in Canada will be selling them?

You don't still have the hogue's by any chance do you?
 
The hogues are too wide across the top, I found, making them painful with stout loads. I picked up some after market wood inlay ones for the GP that are much better.

I have a real dislike for the monogrips of all types.

I'd put smart money on Prophet River or Wanstalls getting these first. They seem to cater to the boutique gun crowd the best, and this fits the bill.

Not all Blackhawks take the "Ruger Only" loads. I would doubt the Redhawk gun would but then I find the max. published loads for the 45Colt to be enough for anything I might ever want to do with the gun so the ability would not one that would influence my decision to buy or not buy. As an aisde I asked P&D about them and am waiting for a reply.

I went with the Lett grips for my GP-100. The Hogues felt bulky and frankly uncomfortable.

My Ruger Super Redhawk Toklat Alaskan 454 Casull, doesnt have a problem wityh Ruger only 45 LC full house load, it share the same frame than the Super Redhawk in 45 LC and 44 mag... JP.

Where did you find Lett grips for your GP100?
 
Not sure if they're actually 'Lett' grips anymore, but Ruger is selling the old style GP rubber and wood insert again, product number 70083. I tried to buy direct and was told they don't do direct exports but referred me to the Canadian warranty/parts center in Quebec. Was about $80 to my mailbox. On topic...I really like the idea of this revolver as well, and am also wondering if the slight relief for the moons changes the case head support enough (at all??) that you can't run 'Ruger' only loads in 45 Colt. I believe previous Redhawk 45's have been included in the list of guns you can exceed conventional data with..

The Ruger 45acp/45LC is not built on the Super Redhawk frame that your Super Redhawk is so I am not sure your comment is relevant. I am not saying the Redhawk handle the "Ruger Only" loads but the two guns are not built on the same frame. The 45acp/45Colt Redhawk appears to be made on the same size as the 625 N frame Smith.

Zirah I got a set off of the Ruger Forum IIRC. Either there or Ebay. The new grips Ruger sells, as above are virtually identical, and made for the Match Champion version of the GP-100. Worth a look.

Dimensionally the RedHawk and SRH are or almost identical except for the obvious (grip and frame extension where the barrel connects) and both bigger than the 625. As I understand it, some original RedHawks experienced some frame cracking (when using heavy loads) where the barrel attached. This led them to design the SRH and beef up that part of the frame (hence the extension). It was then discovered that the cracking observed in the RedHawks was due to a particular type of lubricant or adhesive used to attach the barrel. When they changed the lubricant, no more cracking.

The difference with the 454 and 44mag version of the SRH, is the steel used for the cylinder.

Don't you find the double stacking in the GP100 DA trigger kinda weird? Smiths are all (at least the ones I own and have shot) a really nice even pull then "snap!" like a glass rod. Wonderful! For SA I still find the Smiths better, but not by much. (Rugers single action is also really nice {on their SA/DA revolvers})

Double stacking? Just smooth to the break then the gun goes off. I have a 686 no dash that does not have the trigger my GP-100 has. Both are great revolvers no doubt. With better installed sights the Ruger gets the nod. I won't be selling the Smith anytime soon either. Both are great but based on the two guns I have the Ruger gets the nod.

ps Now if someone offered me a trade for a Match Champion and cash I could let the no dash go....
 
I want one as well to go with my 4.2" GP100. Looks like it will be in the same price range as the 44 mag.

I may have to put up for sale my minty 686-1 with original box to free up some cash.

The Redhawk action is far stronger than any Blackhawk. Cylinder diameter for the redhawk is 1.782 verses 1.731 for the Blackhawk. Chamber wall thickness for 45 colt is 0.103 verses 0.076.
Published reports I have read cite the redhawk being 30% stronger than a large frame Blackhawk (going from memory here, it could be even stronger) Brian Pierce in Handloader Magazine has written extensively about the strenght of the Redhawk, and has published many very hot 45 colt loads for them with the warning that they are NOT for Blackhawks

Unless mine came off the line on a good day, there's no stacking. It's a longer pull than the Smith, and I have Smiths that are nice, but I was comparing it last night to my new model 66 and that one wasn't a smooth and even take up.

I was trying to think of an excuse to sell the GP100, but so far I just can't bring myself to. It's neither better nor worse over all. Just different
 
I really should stop coming to this forum. I keep discovering new firearms that make me end up spending money. Such an expensive hobby this is!
