ACR Media and Info Thread

I was able to source some ammo that many here have likely not ever seen, 30 RAR. It gives 308 like performance out of and AR 15 and was a caliber that Remington has promised future conversion kits for the ACR.

I got tired of waiting and have a site Vendor looking at how to build it now.

Very interesting indeed, wouldn't a different carrier and barrel extension also be needed tho? Can that fit in the ACR upper? So many questions... I'll stay tuned for that one tho :)

the factory ACR bolt will not work and the AR10 style bolt from the R15 will not either.

I have a couple of other ways this should work figured out though.

the 30 rem AR is a necked down 450 with a larger rim. the only reason this was done was because the Remington factory bolts for the 450 are not made strong enough due to the low pressure of the 450 and they were worried about someone putting the 30 RAR round in the 450 gun by accident.

But you can open up the face on a bolt that was designed for a higher pressure cartridge like 223 or 6.5 and it will last. (guys in USA doing it with AR's have tested this)

So the solution is to either machine down the rim on some 30 Rem AR ammo or resize some 450 brass. I already have a working 450 ACR so it is just a barrel change away.

That's what I had done to my extra 223 bolt for my 6.8SPC conversion. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet so I have no idea how long it will last but hopefully it's got enough material left :)

6.8 uses a smaller rim diameter so I can not see you having an issue at all providing it was done right.

Just installed a Geissele Super 3 gun trigger made for an AR into my ACR, took me 20 min to get it done, but it works like a charm.

Fantastic improvement over stock even with the heavier 4.5lb spring.

This is not my picture nor is it my trigger, BUT take note of the hammer spring on the stocker on the left. It has a slight bend in it to engage the safety retaining plate.

Bend this on your Geissele to match the factory spring and it works.

Having a bench vice REALLY helps with the install (and a wire to hold the actual trigger in the right position while you are trying to get the hammer into place while still indexing the safety retaining plate.

I also took the time to install my extended bolt release :)

As always, this is my experience and your mileage may vary. Taking my advice, you do so at your own risk and if anything happens, I cannot be held responsible for your actions.

LOL, I just traded my black for a tan a month or two ago :)
Here's mine with a couple of my other FDE rifles.

I need to figure out how to set mine up for hunting, would love to do that!
It was a hard decision, the tan is kinda off a little but it blends better in the bush and with my 300BLK and 6.8SPC conversions I'll be hunting with mine.

I can hook you up with a guy that will build you a 300BLK barrel and I can help you set it up. It requires you to cut an op rod down to carbine length though so you'd need to order one of those if you wanted to keep the 223 conversion functional. Buying the rest of the gas system and the barrel nut and handle makes things much easier as well if you plan to swap back and forth regularly.
Once I do some function testing with the 6.8 conversion I may sell the barrel and bolt. Won't be cheap though as I would sell it as a package with barrel, bolt, and mags. It uses standard mid length gas system though so no ordering parts :)
