I am in the market to purchase a T97. I know certain ones have more problems than others, especially bring finiky with mags for no good reasons.

Can anyone with experience chime in regarding which generations or serial number range is the best, and most reliable?

I have one from the first batch brought in, shoots great! No barrel gouge, no mags problems (although Pmags gen 3 are a tight fit. Metal mags are the best choice overall.

Mines an early one from the first batch. I can check serial number if you want. No problems with any mags. The PCV were tight when I first got them but after some use they broke in nicely. The AA beowulf mags work perfectly. I think it's just hit or miss on if it will work with all mags or not. I think the Magwell can be opened a little bit on the ones that are tight. I've been very happy with mine so far.

You can make out the serial number on your rifle in the picture FYI.

Is that the t97.ca lower? Looks good

Only issue i had with mine was with pcv mags. Some double feeds and bullets being pushed back into their casing. Was first gen of their mags so maybe they've improved but runs pretty good with lar, pmag and the factory mag. ( had to do 5 min of sanding and filing with pmags and pcv's but dropped free after)

No issues with mine. No barrel or feed ramp problems.

I'd say try for a 14### serial number

The T97.ca FTU and LHG change the gun entirely

Thanks! Yes it is the LHG from T97.ca. It made huge improvements to the ergos(AR style safety) and adjustable trigger! Frank has really turned this into a decent little bullpup with the FTU and LHG.

Lol. Yeah I after I posted it I noticed you can kinda see it. Oh well.

Put one less round in your PCV mags. Mine did this in all my rifles until I put one less round. Zero problems since then

I have no experience with any T97s but I hear the later the Gen, the better! A FTU model will be here soon?
But based on your avatar, I would stick with the rifle pictured! 1000x better!!

Funny how you say the tavor is 1000 times better in one sentence and that you have no experience with the t97 in another??? the tavor is a 1000 dollars more but the t97 is a great rifle for the money and even with the few flaws people have found ie the gouge in the barrel it is standing up just fine especially with m14.ca's awesome conversion options!!!

Ok, you got me! I exaggerated about the 1000x better statement. I have handled the T97, stock and with the FTU. I find the ergos very unintuitive. Quick mag changes are difficult. Gun feels cheap compared to the Tavor. When I said I had no experience with one was that I was never interested to shoot one. . If a $1000 bullpup is what you want then I would say buy it. IMO still better than a SU-16 ( I know that is not a bullpup).
Reason I made that comment is, by the OP's avatar, I assume he owns a Tavor already and a pretty tricked out one at that! He might be a little disappointed with a 97 after the Tavor. Just sayin'.
And I have experience with the Tavor.;)

With the LHG and FTU it's a great rifle. They are even coming out with a paddle mag release of you want. I have no issue with ergos now that the safety is by the trigger. Mag changes I find are good once you're used to it. Decent position to reach, press, and pull out.

Even with the upgrades the T97 is half the price of a Tavor with a decent trigger installed.
