Handgun transfer wait times?

30 September: ordered a pistol by telephone from a store in Ontario. Sounded like I was dealing with an employee with limited experience of firearms transactions.
1 October: CFO approves the transfer.
7 October: transfer doc arrives in the mail in BC.
8 October: no sign of delivery yet, so I email the store for a tracking number.
9 October: email from the store - it hasn't been shipped yet. Reason given: the CFO didn't fax that day's transfers to the store as it usually does. Store says that some take hours while others take days. My pistol will be shipped today by Canada Post Expedited.
10 October: Canada Post tracking number informs me that delivery will be on 20 October.

Lessons learned:

1. Ask to deal with an experienced member of staff when buying from a store.
2. Ask the store to give your email address to the CFO. The CFO will email the docs to you! In this instance, I forgot to ask and so did the store.
3. Don't assume that anything has happened until you have a tracking number.
4. Don't assume that "Expedited" means that it actually will be.

No fun for another ten days...

This has happened to me twice in 7 transactions from what was probably the same store in Ont ... Once it was blamed on the CFO not emailing them the transfer, the other time because of shipping staff problems.

I understand this stuff happens but 2 in 7 transactions within a year isn't the greatest performance ... if I performed at a 71% rate I'd be fired ...

Unfortunately with the lack of selection and competition in this country it's probably never going to change.

Nevermind I had to wait a week for them to ship powder and a NR shotgun (seperate transactions).

I was told by the guy at the store that the cfo is saving up transactions for every store weekly and approving them all together. I just don't understand it. Does anyone actually know what is involved with a transfer approval?
 
Transfer times vary from one week to the next depending on volume. I bought a handgun at Epp's on a Friday, and had a call on my answering machine to come and get it when I got home 40 minutes later. I ALWAYS call at the 2 day mark to check the status. Even if it isn't done, the girl often approves it on the spot (the girls you talk to are the same ones who do the transfers)
 
Did a couple last month in Ontario. Dealer transfers - under 1 week, person to person 2 weeks in MY CASE.
Each individual case is different. Depends on your history with firearms and the law... if you know what I mean...

Selling pistol from Ontario to BC.
Called October 13 morning to initiate transfer.
Buyer called in the afternoon to give them the ref#.
October 14 17:00 - email received - transfer approved !!

I think thats due to the BC CFO being on the ball.. I had similar experience when I bought my 1st used firearm on here, within 24hrs I had my pistol shipped, within 72 hrs I had my new (to me) pistol!
 
ab to on - next morning
on to ab - 8 business days

A+ for Ab CFO
D- for Ont CFO

next up - Ab to Ns and vice versa
 
Started two in 26 Sept. in Ontario........and the wait continues. Funny thing is I already sold a few prior to buying, with very little wait time.
