Hunting with my AERIAL DRONE?

Doesn't seem much different than a fish finder, maybe less effective.

As a guy who's owned one for a year now, I would agree 100%. Unless you're somehow putting a FLIR camera on it, it's not going to get you anywhere. There 25min MAX run time isn't gonna help you either, especially in the cold temps of most hunting seasons.

Would be WAY more PITA than it's worth.

F**king toys is what they are and have no business in the hunting fields............put on a pack and go hunting, forget helicopters, drones and aircraft in general. If you want to be effective learn to hunt and learn to shoot and you won't have to worry about finding wounded game. JEEEEZZZZEEE this is not an equipment race it's about good ethical harvesting of game, which does not include helicopters, drones, aircraft in general or two way radios............for f**k sake doesn't anyone have any hunting skill and ethics left. First a thread about why it is illegal to use helicopters and aircraft for hunting and now one about drones.............why not just go poison the f**king water holes !!!!!!!! These threads make me want to puke and deny I'm a hunter.
I'd be the first one to shoot a drone out of the air, and if you think it's undoable, you bring the drone and I'll happily remove it from the air with a RIFLE..........if you don't think I can, then the bet is on.............I got a grand says I can.

I'll take your grand, and then gladly send the RCMP's the 4K video I take of you raging and blasting away into mid air with a rifle. For your sake, ensure you're not using an illegal mag during your S to A attack....

I trust that since you are so ultra-ethical and old school, that this season you will be foregoing your fancy smokeless powder and brass weapon and revert to a spear. I hope you give up your polar-fleece, goretex, and vibram soles such that you can don some skins, or maybe just hunt naked.

All legal considerations aside (clearly covered in the BC regs, illegal, as it ought to be) who actually thinks they're going to do better cruising over bush looking with a camera than following tracks and blood droplets? If you're open ground, no need for it, so you're clearly implying attempting to find wounded game in heavy brush. Good luck! I ride around above the trees for a living and believe me it's the last place I'd want to be for locating a wounded animal. You need to be on the ground.
.

Someone who has never been hunting or someone who is hoping to take the hunting aspect out of the equation would be my guess...

I'm a Fudd, but a drone seems a tad unsportsmanlike, no?
This is a sport we are talking about, isn't it?

FUDD or not, it wouldn't work, so it's a moot point.

You'd need to have your 4K camera streaming to a 60+ inch screen housed in a trailer to see anything. I use an iPad mini on my remote, and I have a have time making out any details at all. I can see myself on the screen from 100' up, but that's only because I self-recognize what an incredibly good looking, hulk of a man, I am.

HAHAHAHAHAAH!!! That was a joke, for those of you ranting about shooting down my drone.

I agree about the sportsmanship comment, 100%. If there were a way to make them better (ie. with a FLIR camera) I'd support their use for tracking of wounded animals - ONLY. A lot could be gained there. A drone capable of lifting a decent camera is around $10K. It'd cost $10K+, maybe even $20K+ by the time you add FLIR, but it would work. You could easily cover the area that the animal could have covered within minutes. Now, having said that, you'd have to have it with you!!! Truck hunting isn't sportsmanlike either.....

You do realize you can get small flir and infra red cameras that attach to cell phones for about $300. Getting a small one to go with a gopro to go on a drone wouldnt cost much more. And they work well out to 100 yards.

Is it legal to hunt with assistance of a drone anywhere in Canada? Is scouting with a drone considered the same as hunting if there aren't any firearms present. Example, left in the truck for a few hours while aerial surveillance is done.

Surely this will spark some nasty comments so before you lambaste me consider the option of tracking an injured animal after the shot? Surely some value in the drone to ensure the meat doesn't spoil or to ensure the humane kill. What's the consensus there?

Guys in BC have been talking about this. I think the consensus is that if a drone is seen.... it will be shot down.

Bottom line is, it's about the hunt not the kill. If your life is so busy or your so lazy that you need to resort to drones to scout, find a new hobby. Long ago stopped worrying about filling a tag and became more interested in be outdoors and developing hunt skills. If you want to be a top of the food chain predator, then act like one. What's the next question going to be "Can I attach a gun to a drone and shoot an animal from the warmth and safety of my living room."

You're concerned about others ethics but will waive safety and fire a rifle round up into the air to get a drone? You know better than that! :rey2

Is it illegal to use drones to hunt drones used by hunters? I'm thinking a good "mad max" style drone will do nicely. Probably make reality TV as well.

Pretty sure it's illegal here as well. Honestly don't see the value in it as a tracking or scouting tool, kind of takes away from the whole experience. Folks have been tracking downed game longer than these things have been around, honestly don't think they have a place out hunting other than maybe getting some neat pictures of a decoy spread and such. Just my 2 cents

I'm not opposed to your sentiment, but give it 20yrs and their probably will be guns on drones.

Would I scout with a drone? No.

Would I track with one? Yup.

Would I report you to the RC's of you shot at my drone and I got it in video? Yup.

Would you and I have words, or more, if you shot at my drone? Yup.

They're new tech. They're a feasible toy, and tool, for lots of us. Accept it, it's 2015.

ps - was there a tirade like this when trail cams came out?

Drones are the new TRAIL CAMS. I'm sure all these FUDDS ranting about the unethical use of aerial devices where the same DINOSAURS going on about trail cams last decade. Like it or not these little flyboys are going to change the way we do everything. From shipping packages, fighting battles to delivering medicine.

GET READY!

Ps- no way your hitting one with a rifle in flight

Really? Did you read the part where it says they're illegal to use for hunting?

But yeah, it fits in perfectly with the instant gratification gamer/couch potato. Ideally you could use your Xbox controlled drone to shoot a deer and then send grandpa out in the "wild" to retrieve it.
