Hunting with my AERIAL DRONE?

TL ; DR

Why can't you just hunt traditionally? This is seriously a step in the direction of reducing a huge number of animals. And people already complain about lack of white tails and elk etc cause they can't seem to find them when they're hunting without drone aerial footage.

Define "traditionally".

1500BC?

200AD?

1000AD?

1500AD?

1850? 1920? 1970? 2000?

You get my point.

Yeah you're right :p

But still regardless of the definition of tradition it's kinda stupid. "Hey look there's a deer laying down over there let's go!!" Like you're taking any and all fun and skill out of hunting. If you're that desperate for an animal just bait the F'in thing. God

I agree but now you're offending all the guys who bait.

If you are really worried about finding wounded game, sponsor a Zimbabwean from Kariba.

Fixed it for you. Best damned tracker I ever saw was from Kariba. And a hard worker to put some of the young guys to shame. Probably a better retirement for a guy like Robert in Canada than Zimbabwe.

Really? Did you read the part where it says they're illegal to use for hunting?

I'm not hunting, I'm observing wildlife for my private youtube channel.

I think OP's question can be reformulated to be : "is it legal to operate a recreational drone, for recreational purpose, during hunting season ?"

Well said!

Drones would do the same as dogs, for a fraction of the price to maintain. I guess this comes down to this. The old guard has been doing thing very inefficiently, and when the technology finally allow progress, they resort to petty resentment by purposely making it harder for the new generation, "just because".

A drone does the same as dogs? Not a chance. Rethink your statement. Dogs can pick up scent or a blood trail, and can cover ground a lot more efficiently than any drone can. Won't see drones get into thick cover either. Only thing a drone is any decent for is a overhead pictures of things, but becomes useless over any sort of cover. Seems that folks want to play with toys more than use time proven tracking skills that have been taught and passed down. Put the joysticks down and track your animal if you have to like everyone else.

I have nothing against technology, I think helicopters are wonderful devices but they too are unlawful to use as a hunting aid. I think drones have their place as in surveying and aerial photography (and toys) but again they are unlawful to use as an aid while hunting..........It would appear that some on this forum are unable or unwilling to learn the finer points of hunting, ie stalking, spotting, still hunting, tracking and shooting and would rather use technology to give them an edge over the game they pursue.
As far as me hunting traditionally, I have taken a fair number of animals with a bow including several bears, not because I used technology but because I know how to hunt and I spent 100s of hours honing my bow skills.
As far as aerial shooting goes there are safe places to do such things and there are actually organized events for such things...........I too have done a lot of clay pigeon shooting but with my 243, 375 H&H, 22 rimfire and some with my 470 NE. It can be done quite safely in the right areas, and with practice one can get quite good at it.

Said another way:

"There are two types of people in their thread, those who agree with me, and everyone else...."

Brilliant. Absolutely f-ing brilliant.

I hope Transport Canada hasn't provided you a license to fly, repair, or even get close to that bird in your avatar. If they have, I trust you use ONLY the stars in the night's sky, and perhaps the feel of the wind on your face, to navigate.

Shoot at my property, I dare you. Pop off a couple shots next time you see a drone at an accident scene too -it's probably just some 12 year olds out to p!ss you off.

you are a idiot .... how many times do you need to be told they are unlawful to use ?

the technology is actually fairly old , only the size has changed ( how long have helicopters and cameras capturing motion been around ) .

you need to ask yourself , why is it illegal to use aircraft to hunt animals .... and that is your answer .

also using a drone could also be considered "harassing " to wild life , like snowmobilers or atvers chasing them .....

and I could really care less about " your property " unless it is harassing me , then it is open season , no bag limit .

If you are a Greenpeace militant, *hunting* in itself could be considered as "harassing" wildlife. As I already mentioned, if I want to shoot a wildlife documentary, am I harassing it ? If I walk in the wood, am I harassing wildlife ? So, is it illegal to shoot documentary or walk in the wood ?

Or, if you're just cantankerous, grouchy, and miserable, maybe seeing a drone on the TV is harassment, therefore it's OK to shoot the damn TV set....

IT'S OPEN SEASON ON THE TV!!!
