Yet another hunting accident in Ontario

Another stupid accident. What was he thinking climbing a stand with a loaded firearm!! Not just the magazine, but one in the chamber!!

I wonder if we will find out if the safety was off, or the firearm failed?

I sometimes hate showing my location as Ontario, all the crap that happens way down south embarrasses me. :( I wish more people realized that those of us north of the 49th are not remotely like those south. Generally and politically speaking that is

The people in the North know that they are different than those in the South, and congratulations to you for it!

The people in the South don't even know that there are people in the North...or, for that matter, that there even is anything north of Huntsville.

Wow, you guys are sure full of yourselves! Good for you for thinking you are better then us 'southerns'. I'm sure no one in the North ever did something stupid or had an accident.

Geez, relax, it's all pretty tongue-in-cheek. Besides, the word "better" never came up until your post...before that, it was "different", and although I was a southerner when I lived in Onterrible, I spent enough time in the north to see that difference as well.

Everyone knows that of course, if you want "better"...you have to go west. :) cou: :nest:

Let's see here, what possibly good can happen when carrying a loaded gun while climbing a tree stand, none, the risk out weighs any benefit.. Predictable is Preventable..

I find it funny how some ( usually the same 2 or 3 here) self righteous CGN'ers pound their chests, I can live with people that make mistakes I can't stand the people who think they are perfect. Wish this fellow a speedy recovery and bet he learns from his mistake.

...Both probably experienced hunters. Was it a life time of bad habits catching up with them or complacency? Work place studies show the accident/incident rate goes up after 20 years on the job...If you make it a habit to always do something the proper way it will carry you a long way. Making a decision whether or not to cut a corner is not even close to the right mindset even if during that particular instance you do it the proper way. Safety is a habit. It is a much over used phrase in the workplace but it works.

That's it in a nutshell. It wasn't curiosity that killed the cat, it was complacency. Handling a firearm is like driving a car or working construction...you must remain alert and aware of what you are doing at all times. Do it long enough without an incident or accident, start to take it for granted...and a very loud, very bad noise may ensue.

poor guy has an accident, gets shot for his troubles and all you guys do is complain about how he could have prevented it... I just wish him a speedy recovery.

I rarely wear a safety harness in my treestands (my bad!)... and I occasionally fall asleep... one of these days they are going to scrape my frozen carcass off the ground under my stand... and I will have the dumbazz obituary.

When I was a younger lad, I used to bowhunt in behind Franktown Ontario. I used to sit up in my treestand and I ALWAYS fell asleep. No safety harness on me either... good times.

Btw, why is the title, "Yet Another Hunting Accident"... ??

Are there lots of guys getting shot or what're you getting at?

And I wish more people realized that it's a douche-move to just generalize about people from anywhere in this great country of ours.

Swing and a miss.

He's from Timmins.

You mean the guy involved in this accident who is from New Tecumseth, which is west of Newmarket or about a half hour drive from Toronto?

Where on earth did you get Timmins from when the article doesn't make one mention of it? Peterborough, Havelock, New Tecumseth and Hamilton are the only places mentioned and they're all well below the north-south line. Timmins is likely an 8 hour drive from the country where this guy was hunting...

Yeah my bad. I got my hunting accidents mixed up. The guy injured in brant county was from timmins.

Anyway, infighting aside, east/west/north/south... Don't matter. Just play safe out there everyone!

Accidents happen. How about giving this tuff old bird some credit for driving himself to the hospital! I works in the emergency services and see so many wimps call 911 because they have the bloody FLU.

GOOD ON THIS GUY FOR MANNING UP!

The scary part of all this is the fact that there are so many of these incidents in the news right now that it's hard to keep them straight.
