Ruger Alaskan Stainless in 375 or 416

I use 250gr Hornady GMX bullets over H414 in my Alaskan and find this to be one of my most accurate rifles. It's very flat shooting as well, nearly equalling the 338LM out to 500yds with a similarly weighted bullet.

There is no downside to the 375 Ruger except for perhaps dealing with the skepticism of those who do not own one.

Why one needs to attach 9 rounds to a rifle?
To carry more payload?
Or have not enough confidence in this caliber, thus need quantity to save quality?

what about some with an ammo belt? maybe not the caliber but hunter capability? lol ...

i ve done that for most of my rifles and sometimes it is convenient when you are away from home for a few days and have more than one tag in your pocket ....

can be said from a lot of different caliberd and i own a 375 ruger. still wondering why using a 250 grains in a .375 caliber ...

The GMX is a full gilded bullet with a spire point and a boat tail and it has a good ballistic coeffiency. It shoots nice and flat and carries good energy at longer ranges. It's a tough bullet and is very accurate in my Ruger. One downside is that it eats up a fair bit of case capacity with its length. I also shoot the 270 and 300 grainers on occasion. I like 'em all.

We really don't have need for anything larger than a 30/06 in the east. Biggest thing we hunt here is moose and black bear. No griz defence needed.

I hear you. Although you could own one just for the hell of it! I would argue that no one needs a 375 unless they are hunting dangerous game in Africa. I have a 45-70 as well but my preferred bear defense gun is an open sight 30-06 shooting 200gr just because its a semi auto. It gets lead down range in a hurry without jacking around with bolts or levers. The big bores are just plain fun though ;)

I have owned several 375s here in NB over the years and like them all. Currently, my "bigger bores" are a 358Winchester and a 30/06. Hardly big at all. :)

Not sure if you are joking?

But if the weight of a few rounds of ammo on the side of a stock are a consern to you.
Maybe you should pull up you skirt and go to the gym.

On second thought my 125lb girlfriend has 9 rounds on her rifle as well.

Maybe if you get tired you could ask her Nicely to hold your extra ammo.

All personal choice..... But I agree with the poster..... In a hunting situation, why add all of that weight?.....
