Ruger Redhawk .45ACP/Colt 4.25"!!!

I have long thought that the 4.2" RH .45 would be fantastically versatile if cut for moonclips! The nice thing is that the MSRP is the same for the uncut one.

The Redhawk action is far stronger than any Blackhawk. Cylinder diameter for the redhawk is 1.782 verses 1.731 for the Blackhawk. Chamber wall thickness for 45 colt is 0.103 verses 0.076.
Published reports I have read cite the redhawk being 30% stronger than a large frame Blackhawk (going from memory here, it could be even stronger) Brian Pierce in Handloader Magazine has written extensively about the strenght of the Redhawk, and has published many very hot 45 colt loads for them with the warning that they are NOT for Blackhawks

From what I have read the RH can easily digest the 'Ruger Only' loads for .45LC. It was either Brian Pierce (as you mention) and/or John Taffin who wrote that for a .45LC to run neck and neck with .44 mag ballistics it needs to be loaded to approximately 80% of the .44's pressure and the RH can handle that without issue. Where legal you could run .45ACP in IPSC/IDPA one day and hunt big game with stout .45LC loads the next. The pennies are being saved...my SRH needs a mate!

I've decided to get a revolver and I am very interested in this gun. I was planning getting a 686 as its nearly impossible to find a 625. Then I found out about the ruger 45acp in moon clips to good to pass up anybody hear anything about dealers bringing this gun in I'd happily put a deposit down asap.

One dealer told me at least a year.

I am sure at one point Clay will bring in some Talo Limited edition of the Ruger Redhawk Hybrid in 4.2 inch 45LC/45ACP...
I will get one then... JP.

I owned a 4.2" RRH in 44mag…built like a tank and weighed like one too!
If Ruger's 45ACP dbl/single action trigger has been improved I may consider getting one to go with my S&W PC625….

They are being sold in the US now.

All I have seen on gun sites below us is that the gun is ‘allocated,’ as in, Ruger tells us they're going to be shipping us some. Are they actually trickling out?

No, the .45 Colt -only version like at Epps is not the same. Model 5032 in 45ACP/45LC with 107mm barrel, announced like 9 months ago. It's basically the afore-mentioned, with the cylinder milled for moon clips, so why does Ruger take so long? They *should* be able to announce and sell right away!

Debating this new 5032 Ruger vs. trying to hunt down a S&W 625 (in particular the Performance Center model). How does the Ruger dbl action compare to the 625?

Unless it has changed, my experience has always been strength and durability= Ruger. Trigger =S&W. I have both and love both. If I was going to give a gun a steady diet of hot loads I would go Ruger

I shoot my PC625 mostly in dbl action because the trigger is so smooth. Single action is very crisp but gets boring putting the bullet thru the same hole almost every time :)
From what I can remember, the dbl action of the Ruger had more stacking going on with a definite wall just before the trigger broke. I found the 44magnum was punishing after a box of 50 (event the 180gr stuff).
I personally enjoy shooting 45ACP and 96rnds of SWC's (16 moon-clips/6rnds per) goes quick when the moon-clips are all pre-loaded before hitting the range. It's also easier on the bank account (I don't reload).

S&W PC625 is worth the hunt…

The .45LC round is a lot longer than a .45ACP round (+0.392 inch) and then there is the extra length of the moon clips. This leaves more or less unsupported lead in the cylinder for a fraction of an inch. I ran into this in the .460/.454/.45LC round. I would think the Black Hawk convertable would be a better gun in this regard. Glad this gun is on the market, suspect it won't be great for accuracy. If your shooting .45ACP you would have to clean the cylinder before going back to .45LC I would suspect. The S&W 625 is .45ACP only so that is a better way to go IMHO. I have a history with this setup. I started with a 625, sold that way too cheap, got a Blackhawk convertable, sold that and went back to a 625. Sticking with the 625. EPPS have a couple Blackhawk convertables for sale right now.

+2
The BH Flat top Convertible is a relatively smaller package. The Redhawk is a very large pistol, for either the 45Colt or the smaller 45ACP. For guys like me who cast their own bullets potential accuracy can be approved by sizing bullets .452 for both calibers. I find I shoot about 80% 45acp to 20% 45 Colt in my gun. I just have more 45acp cases. The BH comes with separate cylinders which is much more handier and provides more support for the bullet when shooting .45acp.

Take Care

Yeah, yeah, there are better options out there. Still gonna get both calibres in a S&W 25 — classic gun only, not the new one.

Ever hear of love at first sight? That's me and this revolver. No way to explain it; it's not about accuracy or ease of cleaning or anything else. I'll probably shoot mostly .45 LC anyway, likely hot-rodding many loads to ~.44 MAG for fun.

Don't like Blackhawks. Don't like Super Redhawks. Don't much care for the SP101. The Vaquero isn't good enough. Don't even like the Redhawk or GP100 with anything over a 5" barrel. Over-all, Ruger and revolvers: meh. Love my short GP100 though, and _this_ one is coming home with me too!

When are these coming in to Canada?

Little early to be in the bottle isn't it?
