New CZ Shadow owner. Is mine broken?

Hey guys,

Recently I bought a CZ SP-01 Shadow off the EE. I'm the third owner. I'm wondering if this is a feature of the shadow, is not a feature but normal, or my pistol is just broken.

When the safety is in engaged with the hammer down or half cocked, I'm able to pull the trigger all the way to the rear anf the hammer stays back. Nothing happens until I disengage the safety and then the hammer automatically drops forward back to half cocked. Is this normal?

Also, should I even be able to engage the safety with the hammer down?

I've handled Shadows before buying this one, I've just never noticed it before. And I don't know anyone else who has one to compare it to.

You shouldn't be able to engage the safety with hammer dropped. With the hammer in half #### you can engage the safety but it should still stop the trigger from moving and the hammer from dropping if I remember correctly? I'm sure someone else will confirm this.

Sounds to me like the previous owner did some kind of custom decocker mod to it.
Or you got ripped off. I'm hoping it's A but bet it's B. Either way you should have the guy's phone number from the transfer and call him regarding it.

Thanks. I'm gonna see what a few other guys say as it seems like I'm not the only one experiencing this. I can't say whether it's a dud from the factory and I'm not gonna point fingers just yet aha. I know for sure it wasn't the guy I bought it from and it would have been from the original owner or the factory itself.

What happens when you #### the hammer, apply the safety then try pulling the trigger? If the hammer falls at that point you have a problem. If nothing happens and you take the safety off and the hammer falls without touching the trigger, that is a problem too.

I have a CZ 75 SPO1 shadow and when I first got it you could engage the safety with the hammer down. I changed the sear cage and the safety and problem was solved. It looked like the factory (was a new pistol) had been a like too enthusiastic fitting the safety and had take quite a bit of material off it, that or it was a defective part.

You shouldn't be able to use the safety with the hammer down think 1911 or ar15
I think.you should talk to the previous owner

I just tried mine and it doesn't do any of what you describe.
Safety won't engage with the hammer down.
Trigger barely moves. With hammer half cocked
Trigger moves almost all the way back when full cocked and safety on.
Hammer stays in same position after safety is disengaged.

Hate to tell you but I think your CZ is broken and a safety hazard. Get it to a gunsmith before you use it.

some Shadows will allow you put the safety on while the hammer is down. It's just a convergence of tolerances usually that cause it. But it's also a non issue. Simply don't apply the safety when the hammer is down. And, don't pull the trigger if you do. Pretty simple.

You're not wrong. It is pretty simple. I wasn't sure if this was a safety issue or not. From what I've read it doesn't seem to be.

That being said, to me it's unacceptable for a $1000 pistol to have such varying tolerances from the factory. I could understand it it was something minor, but this is a key part of the gun that the factory should all be on the same page about. I don't think I'm wrong for wanting something the way it should be in the first place.

Anyways, thanks for all the replies. Im going to order up a new sear cage and safety and hope that fixes it.
