MERGED. Type 81 is on its way to Canada. Classed as RESTRICTED

It's funny because yesterday I posted in that other T81 thread, "wouldn't it be nice to have this thing approved, I wish the RCMP read these and would give me the gift of approval for tomorrow." Or something along those lines...

Then BAM! Yeeeeesss

Maybe our overloads do watch us... If so, thank you :)

It was already approved yesterday. It just wasn't posted about on cgn.

Well a Type 81 in NR status is on my list!

I know pricing is will be different now due to the CDN dollar being in the toilet, but what can you do?

Show me how we get 18.5" barrels made up for under $500 and then how we get it attached to the receiver thus seeing it non restricted.
Until then it's just a (probably) well over $1,000 range toy paper weight (+ the cost of a potential 18.5" new manufacture barrel)

Cool to see it get approved for legal import etc but I'll wait out patiently on this one.

Someone educate me on this as well but could not the flash suppressor be welded on to increase barrel length and make it non restricted?

^ If it was an HBAR or some other type of high quality barrel that improved accuracy, .. id pay decent money for that! 1.5k is still 1.5k+ cheaper than a Valmet.

So, the question is, based on the RCMP note about the 'easily converted' are they now allowing the market to be flooded by these types of firearms, highlighting the 'loopholes' in the current laws, which will force action by the current government to slam the door shut, and add additional prohibitions? Or am I reading too deep into this?

Criminal Code, 84(1)
Barrel length

(2) For the purposes of this Part, the length of a barrel of a firearm is
(a) in the case of a revolver, the distance from the muzzle of the barrel to the breach end immediately in front of the cylinder, and
(b) in any other case, the distance from the muzzle of the barrel to and including the chamber,
but does not include the length of any component, part or accessory including any component, part or accessory designed or intended to suppress the muzzle flash or reduce recoil.

Whether it's welded or not, the flash suppressor or recoil compensator is not part of the barrel length.

This is the scary part! ...... We don't know what the Libs will do and they still have a few more years to go.

My opinion is that you are reading WAY too much into this.

The new government is being almost fanatical about "transparency", and believe it or not, they don't seem to be cherry-picking their transparency to only include issues the Libs care about. What bureaucrats in the past would have considered "acceptable (barely) ways" to dodge telling the truth to public inquires (access to information) is now no longer accepted practise after the departmental mandate letters were published and ministers are pressing ### executives to release everything for public scrutiny.

In the past the lab could hide behind "trust us, it's a public safety issue, no comment on why we are 5 years into a review without reaching any conclusions". Now, under their new transparency mandate, they either have to show results, or explain openly why they are foot dragging. Rather than release embarrassing excuses that make them look inept, they are finally doing their jobs for fear of being exposed for the useless coffee-breaking layabouts that they are.

That is my $.02 worth.

This is exactly how its going to be played I think. Soon the news articles will be on the CBC scare mongering the sheeple by showing all the new deadly assault guns coming into Canada. With new scary AK like rifles and black scary shotguns that look like AR15's hitting the streets the Lieberals ofcourse will be forced to act in the name of public safety.

If the Beretta ARX100 finaly gets its classification of non restricted this week it will be time to start selling to Mike in Canmore as a ####storm is coming our way.

FFS. Sometimes I think Agent Smith had it right....

Some gun owners define their reality through misery and suffering...

The type 81 coming to a Scary CBC article that's blown out of proportion into a nation wide gun ban push near you.

The obvious now out of the way, something even more obvious. We need non restricted versions available.
