Interesting story about the KFIR, the plans were stolen from the Swiss who were building them under licence from France. It took about a year or more as there were about 5,000 separate plans to copy! The conduit was a disaffected senior member of the company building the plane who had access to the plans!

Let's rewind the clock a bit. The Dutch designed and built Fokker D.1:

Pretty credible heavy fighter when it came out, but soon wildly outmatched. The Germans managed to spare a few for their own use:

Strasbourg seen from atop the Mer-el-Kebir fortress (the middle ship) with sister ship Dunkerque in the forground. Note how the funnels have been painted to allow the ships to be easily distinguished from each other. One stripe for Dunkerque, two for Strasbourg.
