Do it up then but stretch both of then out there. Not any of this 40y indoor range crap. I'll be shooting mine from 50y-300y iron sight and I'm not kidding

Why does your sks?
Or a vz or a mini 14 or an xcr or a tavor!?!?!?!?!

I've actually seen better accuracy out of a Type 97 then a tavor

No, Im referring to what ive read earlier in this thread that the Chinese Military expected it to shoot 1.78"@100yrds (not sure how many round group though) ... But personally, id be even happy if it shot 2" or just under.

In the end I'm way to ecstatic for these rifles.

Tried sks's (didn't do anything for me), had every single different barrel length/variant of CZ, VZ rifles (still love them), tried several different x39 xcr rifles and they were meh, only thing that this can fill the void in my heart from my Valmets is this t81

SKS with a removable mag ?
$1000 ?

lol That's exactly my take on it.
I stated it in an old thread on the topic and the flames of internet geek rage went wild!
You're wrong though! It's an SKS with a removable mag AND it also has a pistol grip! ;)
At $1000 before tax there isn't anything this gun will do for me different that an SKS already does at 1/5th the price.
Pass 100% for this guy.

So... you don't Vz.58's either?

hahaha, tell us how you feel Space Marine!!!

Ok, this is how it's done, he's (and a few others) not trying to argue against it with some economic BS, just I'm well served by the SKS at 1/5th the price. I'd suggest it's more like a 1/4...in fairness you'd have to add the TacTicCal Stock and some clips (I can't stand the issue stock).

If the pre-order is full price I'm out...I'm not going to pay a premium AND give them 6 months to collect a bit of interest or finance the production/shipping. It sucks, but it's a market economy and they are acting within the rules...too bad for me.

The $1k price would work for me only because I currently have no rifle of this type...I'm blowing at least $700-$800 regardless.

there isn't anything ANY gun chambered in 7.62x39 will do different than an SKS, other than minor differences in accuracy in most cases...It's a different rifle all together, for a collector it's a nice addition, and it's exciting to be one of the first 1000 owners in the country. When i'm on my death bed, i'm not going to be saying "why oh why did I spend that $1000 on a Type 81?". Dollar in the ####ter or not, $1000 isn't what it used to be...I spend that on groceries in 2 months, I spend much more than that annually in property tax, i'm not welthy by any means, but i'm only going to live once. fixed stock, 2 extra mags for me.

Edit* If I don't like it, I'll put it on the EE for $1,500, LOL!

So SKS-KD which is old refurbished SKS (quality unknown) with a removable mag an pimped up stock is OK at $725 , but a brand new Type 81, which is generations better, is not at $1000 !

To put something into perspective for you guys, someone linked that Guns & Ammo article, and it mentions that the Type 81, sold to foreign armies, used to sell for $175 USD, fifteen years ago.

The article also mention they were built on the exact machines that are used to make the Type 56, which sell for under $100 USD. So given these metrics, and factoring in inflation in price, we're talking about around $350-$425 CAD maximum sold to a dealer, for these rifles. The guns are nothing more than stamped steel, a barrel and some wood.

This is the main reason why there's debate in this thread. You can't markup a rifle way passed the point of it's MSRP. $1000 is a f*cking joke. The Norinco M305's definitely use, pound for pound, more steel, more wood, more milling and more fitting than any stamped steel rifle coming off of an AK platform, and they're $600 dollars.

People should be waiting for the rifles to come in country and have retailers go head to head on pricing. This WILL be a massively popular rifle in Canada, and therefore, we shouldn't be locked into the Tactical Imports pricing and model depiction.

Selling a few custom produced units to the Canadian market vs supplying a foreign military are two entirely different things. Those kinds of sales might also have been government-government direct and not pass through a third party (Norinco/Poly). Manufacturers have repeatably told us about the skyrocketing cost of raw materials in recent years, the cost of labour in China has increased over time as well. Also, keep in mind guns like the M305 and CZ 858 use new old surplus parts for production, greatly reducing the unit cost. A better comparison would be to full newly produced firearms like the CSA Vz 58 or any newly produced civilian market AK-47.

These were never going to be rifles priced sub $600. Since the beginning in 2012 when we discussed the Type 81 with CGN we have always said they wouldn't cost less than $1000. We have been able to maintain this pricing despite a nearly 40% dollar depreciation. If you want a 7.62x39 rifle that doesn't cost a lot of money the surplus SKS is a great option. If you looking for a newly produced 7.62x39 detachable magazine service rifle that's about a close as you can get to an AK here in Canada then the Type 81 may be a good option. We have built a reputation over the years by not being stagnant, and always working and seeking out new and interesting firearms to bring to our market. By continuing to support us you are paving the way for more new and interesting firearms to come to Canada.

The price is reasonable, considering the appetite of the canadian market for a tangible "AK".

However, having to pay full price for pre-order, sight unseen is worrisome.
