What about the 16 gauge?

A scaled Spanish 16 around 6-6.5lbs would be a quite nice-to-have gun. An old photo of a 16ga Bobwhite that I had owned for a brief period ....

It is. I have one. 16 gauge frame, 12 gauge barrels. Best of both worlds. :)

Yes, I can imagine that. It would be interesting to be able to inspect that someday. Asking out of curiosity, do the fences on that SxS appear equally proportionate to the action bar?

I too owned a CZ Bobwhite in 16 bore for a brief time. When I decided to buy it (on line) it looked to have everything I was looking for in a 16 bore sxs. When it arrived and I hunted it I found it had stiff heavy trigger pulls. It did not fit me at all. It seemed to be sluggish to handle and had no "life" in it. But darn it was pretty. It was super reliable and shot to point of aim but so did my Baikal 58. In fact my Baikal 58 (16 bore) actually handled better. I traded the gun for a Remington Special Field 870 in 20 bore  and promptly traded that for another Baikal. Just sayin' always try to handle a gun before you buy.

The 16ga Bobwhite wasn't balanced that well. Besides, both tubes were choked IC unlike their advertised constrictions IC/M (I had mic'd two different guns and both yielded similar figures). Triggers tend to be heavy on all Bobwhites.

Not quite but it's a rounded action and they all tend to look a little out of proportion.

The reason I had asked is because your shotgun frame reminded me of a 12ga Westley Richards droplock that was built along the same lines if I recall correctly. Appeared like an oversized bosom on an otherwise petite physique (obviously not meant as anything derogatory :)). That shotgun, however, was extremely well balanced. Never paid any attention towards fit during my early teens but any bird that you placed simply anywhere just between the fences with that gun simply went down.

I have a 16ga Tobin that has nice weight and balance. I've also grown pretty fond of the Winchester model 12 in 16ga. I have two of them.

never seen that thread but as a kid i always seen hunters with 16ga nothing else. the 12ga went later. the drillings were 16ga in those days.

even brenneke were made for ....

CZ_Brno;12654300 Oh well I got it for the cabin anyway. I'm sure It'll work just fine. I can get ammo from Can. Tire. although it's only 6 shot. I can dump out the 6 shot and replace it with 7 1/2 in I want. I have an old Lee hand loader I bought from Epps. Hell Can. Tire even had 16 gauge slugs. said:
I bought a couple boxes of these #6 at CT, it appears they are #7.5. I opened a couple of shells, the pellets seemed small, counted 360-365 pellets.

You and I share the same taste in dogs and guns. My 16ga is an Auto-5, but I've been looking for an M12, they are very special in the way they handle. Plans to go out west this fall?

CZ Brno -
Chinese, much less than interesting single shot, is not an indication of 16 gauge revival. There will never be any Chinese firearms in my house. And most of the Fiocchi ammo in the link is out of stock.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Browning just came out with a scaled Sweet Sixteen A5 this year. That could be a strong indicator of a revival.

Truth be told if ammo selection were the same I'd opt for a 10 and a 16 over a 12 and a 20.

The plan is for NoDak in late October. May have to fit an HZP test in somewhere too. How bout you?

Hey guys,
I've looked at buying a M37 16 gauge years ago, at Butch's in Clinton.I should have bought one then. I pulled the trigger this fall and bought a Model 12. It is a nice light gun, very lively. I sent to Epps to have the barrel opened to I/C, stripped the stock, reshaped it to an upland configuration and applied 36 coats of tung oil. I'm very happy with how it turned out.It felt weird filing off the semi pistol grip that had been shaped over a 100 years ago.

I also bought a M37 16 of the EE last month, mod choke. it is in very good condition and will stay as is.

Does any one reload for the 16? I see Lawry's has wads, are there any other place for wads or hulls? I've joined the yahoo low pressure reloading group.
Does anyone have any hulls they would like to sell?
Thanks
Dave

Hard to believe the 16 was once more popular than 12. I have a couple boxes of CIL Canuck shells kicking around with nothing to use them in.

Lawry's and Hummason are the two best places for selection of wads that I know of, other than by chance at a gun show.
There is Will Bilozir who stocks some Ballistic Products stuff, located in De Winton, Alberta, selling at many gun shows in the west.

I have 8 16 gauge guns. A bit of a pain finding the right loads but worth the effort IMHO. 2 pumps, 5 SxS and one O/U. All are scaled. Like them all.
