Cheap SHTF, barely will use truck shotgun.

I don't consider my Marine Magnum to be "pretty", but hideous? I don't think so. It's also the most reliable and durable gun in my locker. I didn't know they're $1000 these days. I paid $643.70 (tax in) for mine in 2011. MIM extractor still intact. My spare $14 forged "police" extractor is still sitting in my display case. :)

Prices from a quick google (thanks to our crappy dollar right now):

Wholesale sports: $959.99 plus tax.
Reliable Gun: $959.99 plus tax.
Wolverine: $995.00 plus tax.

So basically $1000+ delivered. Which is insane. A basic 28" express is about $425 new from the same retailers. Wolverine charges $713 for an ATACS which has better sights, threaded for chokes, and a more expensive pistol grip stock, and it has a camouflage waterproof finish (not nickel though).

There is no reason a marine magnum should cost more than an ATACS. It's indefensible.

Can get a Fabarm shorty for $1000, anyone paying that much for a marine coated 870 is high on something. Can get a takedown 590A1 Marinecoat for $650 for fux sake and it's 10x the gun an 870 Express is. I'm not crazy over any of these 'marine finishes' anyway.

I will say this, my Marine Magnum has been carried and used in some pretty nasty weather... no speck of rust, anywhere.
Shoots straight, has a comfortable R3 recoil paid, and has been stone-axe reliable. It's a real keeper. Not to 'dis the Express owners, but I think it's a step up, and I wouldn't trade mine for any new Police models.

As much as I love 870's, neither hard chrome nor electroless nickel are worth $450

Oh I agree! I was just correcting a gentleman that has on more than one occasion given wrong info about the 870! Personally, I see most of my 870s as tools and don't really care if they look like hell from use or rust. I know that with minimal maintenance they will not let me down.

I hear a lot of people talk crap about the 870 but mine has been a work horse for me. Camping in the out back she's lied in the wet sand all night open air camping and shows some petina. Very few jams since 2009. I paid $325 for her and she owes me nothing. And I can break anything!

3" magnums, steel duck shot, actually. #4's Winchester ammo. My buddy wanted to film me firing both barrels at once. I pulled both triggers, but the barrels fired one after the other, albeit very quickly.

Quite a kick, but I use this gun for everything. It fits in my Wildcat perfect.

Truck gun? Get a norc 12.5 or an 88 both will serve you well. If you can score an old Ithaca Deer slayer with the shorter barrel the older you get a nice set of rifle sights.

Id love to get a old Ithaca.. I wouldn't need anymore than 2 3/4" I had one of those Steven 250 ( Ithaca style shotguns ) but never really used it. Didnt have the slam fire option.

Norinco HP-9 factory 14" bbl in black synthetic .....$450 NIB
Mossberg 500 JIC 18.5" bbl in black or Mainer ......$599 NIB
Remington 870 Express 18.5" bbl 5 or 7 shot.........$599 NIB

The Norinco HP-9 with 14" bbl with gold bead front sight is actually a very good quality 870 copy. The one I held was amazing actually lol....I was very impressed. Oil it up nice, grease the action bars and bolt carrier/track, trigger lock in soft or hard case locked up.....couple boxes of signal flares, 00 Buckshot & 1 oz. slugs and you're good to go :)

The Mossberg 500 JIC / Just In Case security shotgun is ideal for your needs also. A slightly longer 18.5" barrel, but quality and reliability written all over it.

With regards to the comments pertaining to rust in new Mossberg shotguns? I looked into this after purchasing a new Mossberg and they use a red packing style grease. I didn't believe them at first but I was able to dissolve it. I've never been able to dissolve rust.
