Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

Any CCI rounds seem to be smooth like butter in my NS522.
Winchesters 22lr are rough like gravel and does not extract well for some reasons... anyone experienced that?

Thanks! I am rather fond of them.

Thanks. That was pretty much the longest distance shooting I've ever done. Spec blinds do make good targets. The two I have were too rusty to be used for blinding off piping, so fair game. I think I'm going to cut the open end off them though. I went back to my shooting spot after work today, all cocky after yesterday's success, and thought I'd back up to 300. That didn't work so well, I don't have enough elevation adjustment for that, so I went in to 250. A quick check of a ballistics chart showed that I'd need approximately 24 moa over my 50 yard zero, so I cranked the scope up and nailed the target on the first shot. Total fluke though, I couldn't hit it again to save my life. And I made the mistake of setting up on a pile of logs instead of a hillside where I'd be able to see where my misses were landing. The mosquitoes were vicious today, so after 15 shots I gave up and took off for the day.

NO worries Kristian , some days things just seem not to good as planned , just keep at it !!

Hey thanks!

Everyone that has posted has made this thread the resource that it now is. I too would like to thank everyone.

Nice shooting! Seems to be on par with mine. I do urge you to complete all the mods, as my example responded well to each.

Try some Fiocchi SV if you can find any.

Thank you Father !

I am a bit rusty with my trigger control and my eyes are not what they were , second time at a rage in 10 years ,,, I have to get back into the grove and two X large Timmies does not help either lol.. I had a very early start this morning ....sad but true .

Everyone lets keep the range and mod reports comming !!

On a bit of a side note, and not to hijack this thread….
But there are some very knowledgeable people here on the NS522 and bringing it forward with good modifications.
Are there any decent after market stocks available?

I have about 5000 rdns. through mine so far and it is my favorite go to bench rest rifle. But I have noticed that it needs 10/15 rdns. to settle down after a cleaning and after approx 100 rdns. things start to spread out again. Cleaning of the barrel and seasoning brings it back together for groupings. Anyone else also seeing this?

I purchased a JW15a-13 a few months ago, and I'm floored with how well it shoots for what it is. In fact, I prefer to shoot it over most of my other firearms.

I'll bite ;)

Where can I find a new example of one of these fine firearms? My Googling just isn't up to par, it seems. Are they still available as new in box or are the now a Unicorn?

I saw there are a couple pending funds on the EE. Anyone else have any hits?

Thanks!

When I was at Bullseye in London Ontario had some but they were not listed on their web site , they had some in the back , in inventory .

Give them a call , I'm pretty sure if they don't have any left the will do their best to find you one .

Local Phone: 519-937-1522
Toll Free Phone: 1-877-630-8393
Toll Free Fax: 1-877-722-1712

They have FREE Shipping too.

The JW24 has the same bolt , receiver and mag but with a different wood stock and longer barrel , as well the JW 15 is the same but with a 24 in barrel as the JW15 a 13 .

If you are asking about the NS-522, that rifle hasn't been made since 1997 or so. There are used ones, very well used ones, and, once in a great while, a NOS or BNIB one. Those sold in Canada a couple of years back were made back in the mid-1990's--they just took a long time to get to market.

What a beautiful rifle you have Minni !!!!

Your right some do come up on the EE , I was lucky I put an add on " want to Buy on the EE " and a fellow CGner ( Great guy ) sent me one, New in the Box , still all greased up .( he had 2 and only need one )

I have not see one with the American walnut stock for sale yet ( like yours aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa )

Thanks! I don't know if I've mentioned it in this sub-forum or not, but I am a Yank. I've bought both of them, used, in the last 2-3 years, in the United States. They go for $450-$500 (or more) these days, thanks to their rarity. We got the ones with the nicer stocks, but you guys got the better price on yours.

Hi Minni

Oh that's why you can get the american version of the SN 522 , yes our prices are better but used ones are going up in value as people understand the quality and accuracy as well as rarity of this fine rifle , they are not the run of the mill Norinco's in fit and finish .

I am not saying that Nornico's are bad but some can be a bit rough out of the box and can use some polishing , but that said all my 5 22lr Norino's all shoot 1 in / 10 shot groups at 50 yards with standard ammo , so no worries in the accuracy dept.

The next best out of the box was my JW 25a , very smooth bolt cycling and it shoots sub 1 inch at 50 yards with no mods . ( with scope my eyes are not what they were lol)

I lucked out my SN 522 it was $ 250.00 can but that was a year and a half ago for NIB . I would not sell it at that price now .
