$779 too much for a German K98 at Canadian Tire?

Here they are. Both had stocks that had wear on them. Both had shiny bores, not 'like new' like the M84 I bought, but were in good shape. My eyes aren't that great at reading small markings anymore so I got my smartphone out. What do you guys think?

Asked young dude if he knew anything about these? "No". Can I take pics so I can send a buddy them, he knows a lot about these. "Sure". How many do you have of these. "5 total, these 2 and 3 more in the back".

I'm so white, I'm pink... cou:

I've been thinking about this rifle... I know the same two K98's were there about 3 weeks ago when I looked, was thinking about going there tomorrow and seeing if they're still there. I liked that rifle I took the pics of, might ask for the manager and make an offer. Worse he can say is NO.

Wolverine has K98's for $640 (not sure what shape they're in), if not I'll just browse the EE for one.

Russian capture for sure. X on receiver and a few other things indicate it. BYF 42 ain't a bad code at all , not rare but a 42 made BYF would have been of good quality. I wouldn't pay $779 for it myself though.

Never hurts to offer a lower price ; the CT here has a very low mark up on firearms , so they have very little room for dickering ; but the profit margin may vary from store to store....

Yes, I bought it for $300 less than the K98 and it was in better shape.

Is that me or is that a good price on the M48?

CT here in Halifax had one in for $550. I'm sure it's still there. LOL, can't get it or I will be standing against the wall facing one. I'm off to the range this weekend to finish sighting in my own RC K98, then it's down the list of M48s.

Good to see these rifles getting some life and use at the range.

I wish the ct stores around here (Ottawa) had guns at all. The nearest place is kemp tulle and all they have for milsurps is sks's. And not nice ones either :(

First of all, it was mislabeled as an M98, then I made an offer lower than the price tag on the rifle, the dude called the store manager and he said NO, then he said "the best I can do is this", then I left happy with a mislabeled milled M48 at a very good price. Never hurts to ask!

This is where the old timers chime in that these rifles were $125 in 1991 and a loaf of bread was .79 cou:

I think I lost interest in the K98's, don't think a discount would be worth it. I'm getting too many bills to justify buying more guns right now.

I went to the CT in Halifax to check theirs out. Yes, 4 X M48s, mixes of M48 and M48A, all for $550. Stocks felt like someone scraped the cosmo off with my sisters hairbrush but the rest stuck in cosmo and not too bad of shape. Still I'm more than satisfied with Weimajacks, but these are a close 2nd. More coming apparently. The CT had one DOT 44 RC that was not in the greatest shape, even for RC with an unusual floor plate, no RC screws, just the two usual ones holding the magazine in. For $795! He said his supplier probably had only 100 or so left and that was it. Bottom of the barrel? Mosins on for $? and a whack of SKS (excellent shape) for $199.

Pics as best I can do with an iPad.

^If you find an M48 you like, make an offer.

If the RC K98's dry up I'm sure their resale price will go up too. I'm certain there are other importers than whomever that CT gets them from.

TradeEx and Weimajack were good deals for a #'s matching M48 for $595, $45 more than CT wants for a shooter grade, without the sight hoods, cleaning rods, slings, ammo pouches (if they are like the ones that were here).

These ones didn't have cleaning rods or pouches but I would bet they would shoot fine. Shooter grade they are and if someone is willing to pay it and use it hunting or at the range, more power to them. If I get another, I will be facing the barrel or butt stock of one of them, lol. My wife may figure out how to use it.

I have an M48BO that I got off a fellow CGN and that is my pride. It would be the last to go out the safe. The other M48, definitely going to ring the bell with that one this weekend.

Still jelous that your local Canadian tire sells these. Still have not found one local that sells guns. Lol the staff look at me like I am insane when I ask them about it.

The store had 4 X M48s and a poor K98 RC DOT. He said he could only bring one at a time out. I made him bring out each one, much to the dismay of the few people looking for service. I couldn't help it, had to see each one, you never know. :) If I didn't have so many I would have probably gone for another. I've gone too far as it is and hope I don't have to bring one or two back resell them lol.

Why? A K98 is not a Yugo. All the things that make a K98 appealing to collectors just don't apply to the M48....at least in my opinion. I'd take a 250$ Spanish Mauser over any M48

Good for you.

Don't know how you got that from that quote, I was responding to someone who was looking for an M48. Where do you get a Spanish Mauser for $250 in 2016? I'd buy one for sure. Make sure to post some links.
