Has anybody tried out their flash bang yet?

With all due respect, if bear is charging, and you deploy flash bang 20-30 yards away from you, with no success... it is game over!

Fact: Bears can run more than 60 kilometers an hour, and they can do it up hills, down hills or along a slope. To put that in perspective, that's 15 m/sec or 50 ft/sec, more than twice as fast as we can run. In fact, a bear can outrun a racehorse over short distances but has little endurance.

That would mean that you will throw flash bang, observe it fail to affect bear's full speed ahead charge, and will have less than a second to pick up firearm (load it or take off safety), aim it and acquire target, and of course shoot accurately at the fast moving bear.

On the other hand flash bang might work on a bear that is fairly passive and approaching slowly.

Cheers,
Dan

So all we need now is an underbarrel flashbang launcher, or a muzzle-mounted discharger cup...

sigh...without getting into a long drawn out conversation, I have had many many bear encounters over the years, as I have worked my entire life in the middle of the bush...and up in the arctic....I draw my opinions from my own experience....and the experience of those of my co-workers....

And yes, I do think that these have their place under certain circumstances......and the situation you cite..is obviously not one of them...

If your situational awareness in the bush is so little that you "surprise a bear" by walking up onto it....obviously this type of deterrent is useless....but if your awareness is such that you see it first.....or you notice it is starting to "shadow" you as you walk.....then this device would be ideal

For civilian use, a little bit more fuse time, 2.5 seconds or something, would be a little better. That way there is a little more margin of error for the user when tossing it. The longer fuse wouldn't be an issue if using the device for bears or for fun.

Obviously for le or mil use, the short fuse is necessary for the proper use of the device.

I know they (manufacturers) can make the delay any time they wish but re-tooling or doing a batch order for civilian use, I do wish you luck.

Roger that. If this manufacturer is making these devices for mil or le clients as a primary busniess, then it wouldn't make sense for them to do anything other than offer the same product they are currently producing. However if these are just being made for the civilian market, then maybe there is some wiggle room depending on what the market demands.

Doesn't hurt to give some feedback.

Well, considering these group-buys just bought somewhere in the neighbourhood of 600+ units in one swoop, then adjusting the fuse time to meant civilian needs/customer demand, might just be worthwhile to them.

That's 600 units that will need repeated refills. No reason why they can't look into adding a longer fuse to the refill kits.

The question is how many folks want a longer delay? I don't.

You appear to have good handle on it, but it would be dangerous for certain city types to develop false sense of security... thinking that flash bang is their magic wand against bear attacks.

Can someone post some photos of what these particular ones look like?

Iam really happy with delay time of 1.5 seconds .As they are built for, not for long distance tossing but almost entry.Distraction is the sole intent of these devises.I did deploy 2 flashbang in a controlled area with excellent results ."Totally over-taken buy instant flash and huge huge burst of concussion"

Caution! Shiller alert!
