The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

where are you guys finding them in 223??, i have the 308 but really want one in 223 as well..

Ruger lists the 223 version of the GSR as being lighter than the 308 version, which seems to imply that the barrel contour is different from the 308 version. I would be curious to know if the barrels contours are the same on the 223 and 308 versions. If not then it may be why they have not yet released the 223 version with a synthetic stock, since it would not be possible to use the same one as the 308 version. I found the following an interesting posting on the GSR barrel length.

I bought one last week , it's the SS/ Black laminated in .556 version,
This week end I ad a chance to try it , I shot 3 mags ( 30 rounds) with and on each mag the first 2 rounds and going well in the chamber but the 8 others I got ftf , It seems that the bolt was not able to catch the round in the mag or it put the round half way out the mag and lose it, could be because I was shooting cheap American eagle AR .223 ammo?
By the way I am still pretty happy
here's a pics :)

That table looks familiar...lol

Had both the 308 and 223 out to the range 2 weeks ago. The 308 put 5 in one hole at 100 and the 223 was doing about 5" with umc bulk.

Have to get some better ammo and dies to really see with the 223 is capable of.

The 308 scouts are ridiculously accurate right out the box.

that LH m77 Scout, my first LH rifle, has proven to be the most expensive rifle I've ever bought. Have since switched, or am switching, all my main hunting rifles to LH

Lol, probably even more expensive than you think. Unless all you want in your safe is 270 Win, 30-06, and 300 wm (and a couple more hum drum chamberings) you will have a safe full of custom/semi custom rifles! But then being in the biz you already know that.;)

Got the new holosun mounted on the .308 scout...... she is now a dedicated dogging, short range spot and stalk / feet on the ground deer and hog rifle......

The Ruger all weather in 7-08 got the zeiss treatment and will be my whitetail stand rifle......

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I didn't feel like burning through all the posts in this thread to see if anybody else has the same issue I am currently having.....

Bought a 18.5" RGSS back in '12. I really liked it! My dad liked it more, so I gave it to him! (I'll get it back one day, hopefully not for a couple decades!)

Fast forward to this past August. I saw a 16.1" model in 308 at the LGS. It followed me home.....

I like this one more than the 18.5".

I seem to be having problems with failure to fire. I have a few crates of Hirtenburger 7.62x51 surplus so I've been doing some plinking with it. I started to experience the FTF about 200 rounds in. So I cracked a box of fed blue 150, same problem. About 1 in 3 seems to get a light strike.

Pulled the bolt disassembled it, pulled out my 308 headspace gauge set, headspace measures at 1.636.....

Now I'm curious, how many other guys have measured headspace on their GSS, if so, what did it come out at?

Cheers!

I really like the length of that scope as mounted on the XS rail....... looks like it would be better balanced than a full forward scout setup......

Ahh, I should be more clear. I am specifically interested in what height would be required to mount the scope with the rear sight still attached ie: low medium, or high. Thx.

All will work....... lows will clear the front sight handily (did it twice now with two setups).... I also wager low rings won't make the rear peep an issue since the front certainly isn't.........

Has anyone removed their front sight and installed a flash hider? I think it would be nice to lose the front sight and make it a little smoother looking. Also, would like to see a couple that have had a larger bolt handle installed.
