The plane in post # 10121, what is it and where is it ?

F4U-1A Corsair, located at Roi-Namur lagoon near the Kwajalein atoll in the South Pacific.

Quote from Wikipedia -

"After the war ended, working US airplanes were sunk off the Atoll, as a cheaper method than sending the airplanes back to the US. The airplane graveyard included several Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers, Vought F4U Corsairs, Grumman TBF Avengers, Curtiss SB2C Helldivers, North American B-25 Mitchells, Curtiss C-46 Commandos and Grumman F4F Wildcats. Don't run if you can walk.
Don't walk if you can stand.
Don't stand if you can sit.
Don't sit if you can lie down.
Sleep whenever you get a chance.

(advice from an old infantryman who's name is lost to the ages)

I heard a good one a few weeks ago. "One thing the military taught me was how to sleep anywhere."
