Helmets mandatory in Alberta green zones !!

Guess what auto/bike insurance covers the medical bills. In Canada they won't let you die or suffer to much. I'm not saying ride without a helmet but really a law to force it in every instance I just don't agree with sorry it's my own opinion and I understand what your saying loud and clear.

So who do you think the "they" is that won't let you suffer? Who do you think paid for the medical bills you said "insurance" covered?

All of us who keep the system going by paying taxes and insurance premiums, that's who. Your wreckless lifestyle is paid for by me and all those who support the system that rescues you every time you need it. We build the roads you use, the ambulances you ride, the E.R. that stitches you together, the beds for your recovery, the pysiotherapists, ALL of it. THAT is why I claim the right to make you at least wear some basic protective equipment when you do wreckless things. It may not save you from serious injury, and I will have to pay for your recovery, but maybe some of that expense can be mitigated. Maybe some rules will make you cost me less.

Unless you are willing to live alone, suffer alone, die alone and not harm anyone along the way (and you obviously aren't, you even want to be hooked to the internet it seems) you are a member of the society you claim to despise. As such, you can expect to pay some dues, and accept some rules. Your vaunted libertarian philosophy isn't being thought through very far.

Brain Bucket not a bad idea on trail rides, always a branch hanging out at head level somewhere..
All fun & games until you get poked in the eye with a stick..

A cheap modular helmet works great.

Think you're gonna need the "government approved" version, it'll be like wearing a space helmet, which kind of kills the thrill of being about in Nature.

What's the big deal?

Just buy a helmet that works for you and wear the damned thing.

All the whining has most you people sounding a lot like a particular political group that you hate so much.

A friend of mine informed me that the Alberta GOVT advised their Sustainable Developments and other departments to start enforcing and giving out fines to get $$$$ for the GOVT coffer. They never use to worry about license plates on ATVs. etc b/c a lot of the officers didn't agree with it. Yes I know its required and I have plates, but see it more of a cash grab than anything IMO.

My friend was told tickets/fines can be issued to people w/o plates on their units when being transported on a trailer !! WTF !! Might as well do the helmet law, but GOD forbid that our govt include First Nations on their Lands. Same with farmers/ranchers on private land. Sorry if you (GOVT-NDP)are concerned over the deaths and Health Care costs provide to those with head trauma injuries involved with atvs/utvs, etc., then you cannot just target the outdoorsmen/women alone. MOst people in industry will wear helmets as its a requirement within the company policies already to operate UTV/ATV/ sleds.

Guess the NDP needs more tax payer $$$ to help fund their stupidity in giving $ 97M each year for the next 14 years to the 4 coal burning power plant companies in Alberta. Oh yeah, BTW, one of them is offering FREE power and gas for the month of January 2017. ARHHH

Ok, Rant over.

Slippery slope as is with everything. Since when has the gov't ever stopped at common sense. Wearing a helmet for some activities probably a good idea, perhaps education, free choice and not yet another law.

People are always "yeah but it's like this and like that and smokers and seatbelts and cracked skulls and I knew a guy and health care costs", but they always stop short of gov't mandating fat people which is like 80% of the population, or or or.

Post a pic of a burst heart from obesity. How about a leg rotting off from diabeetuuus. What are the health care costs for that?, how about drinking?. What I'm sayin' is it never ends and that's what people get tired of.

They're already talking about outlawing cartoon characters and splashy colours on cereal boxes.

I would look further into that. That would be the equivalent of giving someone a ticket for towing a car on a trailer without plates. No insurance or plates required to operate any vehicle on private property.

You got plates, means you have liability insurance. Also, if I see you trashing a stream, cops know who you are. :)

I would have thought that proper safety gear is a given, I wore a orange vest hunting deer before they were mandatory. I wear steel toed shoes at work even though I am an IT tech supporting a major military trade school and have little to do with heavy crap. I have seen the those shorts and sandals guys on the highway, usually passing me at more 110kph.

Dress for the slide, not the ride.

Hmmmm....

Growing up the son of an OR nurse and owning quads my whole life I've heard every horror story you could imagine. I've also crashed enough dirt bikes, sleds and quads to see the value in a good helmet. Stuff happens way to quick to not wear one IMO, but that should be a choice of the individual. I've heard enough stories of 30 year quadrapalegiacs to know that's not what I want for my family. Think of how much hitting your head on the dam cupboard door hurts, imagine a rock at even 25km or a 500 pound machine catching up to you tumbling me down hill, it hurts a lot.

OMG !!! That's enough for me to wear one !

Same here.
the only time I don't wear a helmet is plowing my driveway or working around the yard. I have no problem putting on a helmet on an ATV. I don't need a law to tell me to wear one. you only have to see one friend with a split open skull from a low speed roll over to make you want to wear one all the time. A cheap modular helmet works great.
