The 10 rounds @ 300 yards cgn online challenge.

Herewith my first and second attempt at this challenge. Was not overly happy with the first attempt but it squeezed in. The second attempt may be controversial, The paper of the target had folded back around the group so three rounds whistled through the centre of it without leaving a print, but it does not detract from the size of the group. Your call.

Well I did it on my fourth target on my first day trying.

Rifle was the .308 I used in my "not quite there for the 1/2" challenge.

Blueprinted Rem 700 in Cadex chassis .308.
Vortex Viper PST 6x-24x

I was trying to get it all in the 3" circle I drew, but hey...

And yes that is four rounds in one hole.... I should have stopped there....

I "zeroed" the callipers at .308" so My group is 2.8685"

Good shooting Daver_II. Keeping it together for 10 rounds is not easy, well done.

Can you give me some details on the rifle? Make?

I just saw this. I fired these last summer with my 260 F Classer at 300m, or about 330 yards. 139 Scenars at 2840 fps.

The first target 10 thou off the lands and the second 10 thou in. The group for each on the left was just at daybreak with dead calm, the second group for each on the right was about 45 minutes later when the wind had come up a bit. Both under .4 MOA.

Those aren't cherry picked groups, just what I expected the rifle to do under decent conditions. Great rifle, but I am not a very good F Class shooter. I spend too much time shooting silhouette! :)

Nice work RickF, I will put you in the shot under 2" category with your 1.20"

I am looking to switch to .260 in a heavy palma contour next year, can't wait to try it.

I just picked one up and shot it for the 1st time Wed. to get some brass and slick up the new bore. Dies are on the way. Hope to make another entry here soon. Lol

Some great shooters here!!

I am still in the build process of my rifle.
I bought a Remington 700 tactical 308. Put a Nightforce 20moa rail on. Mounted a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 in 30mm Vortex Tactical rings.
I bore sighted it and shot my first groups last weekend. Shot two 5 shot groups with Ferderal Gold Medal Match 175gr Sierra's and shot less than half an inch both groups.
I am still wanting to change my trigger out for a Timney Calvin Elite and swap out my stock for a Bell and Carlson A2 before I attempt this.
Also would like to do it with handloads for that little bit more accuracy but the Gold Medal match shot so well I might just try it with that.

It will do it with factory ammo and factory stock. Just do it. Lol

I checked my 350 meter dope and had three in 1 1/2" with my Rem. using hunting factory rounds( 165 Gamekings)

That's 1.2 at 330 yards. Coverts to 1.09 at 300 yards.

Just sayin... ;)

Very true but I have to draw the line at converting group size to keep it fair. I had to shaft Skypilot 83 yards. If you were to shoot this at a true 300 yards I have no doubt you would potentially crush it by getting under one inch.

Just kidding.

Although I will admit, shooting multiple groups and then picking one to show off here doesn't mean much to me. That's why I showed four consecutive groups. I want to know, if I sit down in good conditions, what can I expect it to do every time?

You certainly posted some very good shooting and I totally agree with establishing an accurate picture of what rifle and shooter can do. I mainly started this to encourage guys to get out to the range this winter and put some practice in (myself included) to improve consistency and to try and shoot a new personal best. My goal for this coming year will be to start getting this down closer to 2" groups. When I started I struggled to stay under 3" groups, now I can do it almost every time I go out. I bought a nice rifle from the get go, I'm still catching up to it.

Any reason to shoot is a good reason! :)

A guy also needs to get good at the handloading bench. Trying to get groups like we are chasing, concentricity matters. A lot of guys stress over the plus or minus one kernel of powder, but it doesn't make any difference. The groups I posted above aren't fantastic, but they were dumped from a measure, not trickled. If you don't have one, invest in a runout gauge.

You have a good rifle; load it straight ammo and pay attention to the wind. It'll come.

Decided to try with a rifle with a heavier barrel so went to my heaviest rig which comes in close to 13 lbs scoped. Still no luck with my goal of sub 1" ten shot group at 300, but I am encouraged as 9 of 10 are generally pretty close. The wind got me on the middle target and it was so damned cold I couldn't manage a second group. Shot the bottom two targets this morning at -7C and started getting a bit of issue with mirage from barrel heat. Got so flustered I put 11 in one target and only 9 in the next:)
