Southern Alberta Precision Rifle League Match: June 3, 2017 Taber Shooting Foundation

tagged and interested. Not a fan of spectators though.

Again, why no spectators? I have never seen what type of shooting is done at these things , wouldn't mind knowing a bit about it before entering blind . But how much is the entry fee ? I might go and try ( whatever it is )

Final costs have not been set yet but it will probably end up being a bit more than previous matches. However, it does have a longer and more dynamic COF than any previous matches in Alberta as well.

Spectators will be allowed.

Those ones will be ground based.

Many ranges do not allow for targets on the ground for ricochet problems. I would assume you have checked on that?
Also wondering with ground targets how much harder it will be to differentiate between a shot in the dirt just short of the target versus a hit that sprays bullet shrapnel into the dirt? I would think suspended targets would be more accomodating for number of ranges that will let them be used as well as faster set up time?

No, we have never checked on those things... sarcasm if you can't tell.

This has been underway for months and all things are being considered. If the shooter can't differentiate between ground strikes and hits they should probably practice more.

With all this advice no-one special maybe you should've been one of the guys that stepped up to put on these matches when the offer was put out.

Any idea when registration will open?

I believe your previous matches were very successful and registration filled quickly. If this match fills quickly and there is a big enough wait list is there any potential to grow into a two day match with half shooting on Saturday and half on Sunday to keep costs down for competitors (no hotel)?

Unfortunately, we only have the range booked for one day this go around. However that could be something we look into in the future. The number of competitors will be higher than other competitions held so far so hopefully no onw gets left out.

Hey I am just asking questions and trying to be helpful. I think it would truly suck for you guys to go to all this work only to get shut down due to an oversight.
I wish you all the best in this and having shot at many clubs over the years simply thought I would pose a question that you may or may not have thought of.
In the future I will keep questions or suggestions to my self.

We appreciate your input and plan on using only targets that are approved by the range executives. There will be extensive testing done on our targets and mounting systems prior to match day. If they don't pass the testing they will not be used. Our goal is to have a match that is unique, fun and challenging for all ages and levels of competitors. Have a Happy New Years.

Sorry about the short fuse. This event has been underway for nearly 4 months now already and we have thought about as much as we can.

I should say that these are also not ground targets just staked into the ground. They are actually popper style/spring set type targets so they do have give in them.

Slim78 is quite the fabricator and is putting a tonne of time into this and the targets.
