IDF M14 parts kits picture thread!

Here is pretty much how the ones I build for myself will look..... And yes, this is one of the parts kits I picked up yet yesterday.....

Oprod guides are a bit sloppy. The op-rod will need to be hand fitted. Other than that its a pretty straight forward instal on a Chi-com receiver!

This one will be pulled apart, receiver sent for a custom heel stamp. Barrel re-installed and then cera-Kote.

How much does getting the receiver stamped cost? I would love to have one recoated to match a long with the parts and stamped with my own personal marking of some kind.

Hello John
Very cool thanks for posting
Is there any markings/ manufacture on the heavy weight barrel & is the gas systems unitized ?

Contact Vulcan gun refinishing to enquire about heel stamps. He is who I use.

The gas systems are not unitized. They are actually pretty loose. They will require shims and or swapping.

There is a manufacturers number and a drawing number on the bbls. The barrels were made in 11-83. I have asked the question on the firing line forums, I will report back once I can figure out who made the bbls.

I posted this question in Wolverines area here on the Gunnutz for pics and info.

I see you posted over here.

General Dynamics comes to mind (1980's) from these years ago for a medium weight GI barrel with no chrome lining.

If that is what we have here with these barrels, they are all U.S. G.I. parts kits with no commercial goodies added.

A picture would help.

I used to attend the Camp Perry Matches and talk for days with all the Military Armourer Boyz on M14's.

I recall also from conversation, as told by these armourers that they set up M-14's here in the U.S.
and that a fair number of med weight barrelled M-14's Match Rifles where sent to Israel for their Sniper program.

I'm not 100% on all this, as it was a few years ago and I don't like to write about things that where told to me.

The Military Armourers I talked too where from all services, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.

They had complete trailers with shops inside to handle anything.

Springfield and Fulton Armory where big commercial players back then.

CMP also had a small warehouse onsite with parts and and ammunition for sale.

Ahhh, the good old days.

I have built my fare share of these over the years and got right out of it.

Now, I'm back in.

One for the road as you would say.

Fingers crossed.

If that what we have here on the heavy barrel kits, it's one hell of a rare deal to come by in the year 2017.

I must have missed your question, or I would have answered in Wolverine Supplies thread.

Here is the question I posted on m14 forum;

I recently picked up a couple ex-IDF M14 parts kit from a retailer here in Canada.

It came with a medium weight barrel, I have already figured out that the bbl was made in 11-83. What I can't figure out is who made the bbl....

This is what it looks like right now, for those of you who are interested. It is a 2009 import Norinco receiver. Mostly TRW parts, the trigger group is SA. ( and yes, that is another parts kit laying on the bench!)

Here is the stock that came with the kit(s), the extra cheek riser etc can be removed to return it back to a cheek weld usable with the irons.

All in I have 5 builds planned for these parts kits.
Cheers!

And here is the response from a member over there;

MFR 26978 is USGI General Dynamics. (SAK) The part# 9345206 is for a medium weight non-lined match barrel.

That picture is worth a 1000 words!

Looks like General Dynamics contract barrel to me, but I no longer have my reference numbers.

My buddy still has one attached to his rifle that I built for him around 1995ish.

We used to buy them in the wrap from CMP at Camp Perry.

If that is what they all are, nice score Wolverine Supplies.

I for one, am very very pleased.

Being that the bbls are not chrome lined, and the rifle pictured there has Headspaced at 1.628" I can run my pull-through reamer in the chamber to bring it to 1.631". No bolt swaps, or other futzing around! That barrel measured about .25 Throat erosion (on a 0-10 scale) so with the re-cut chamber, it should be a very nice shooter! I have half a mind to fully assemble the beast and go shoot it before I send the receiver out for the custom work.

Of the 5 HB kits I have here all have the same stamp on the bbl, all were made in 11-83. Throat erosion is from .25 to 3. and that's all. Lots of life left in these barrels.

It will be interesting to see if all the bbl codes are the same and if the date codes are the same between 50 or so kits that were sold.

All great fun! Back to the 80's.....

Cheers,
Barney

You can say that again.

I don't think I have seen you since back then at the Bingo Hall Gun shows.

I still hang out with an old buddy of yours I think, Ron D from Toronto.

I used to wade through 45 gallon drums of M-14 surplus parts at Camp Perry on commercial row.

In particular, a U.S. Veteran from the Vietnam War that I knew had a setup on commercial row with hundreds of stocks and drums of parts.

His wife, a Vietnam War Bride did all the deals.

Man, I feel OLD now!

Thanks John @ m14medic.ca, great work and information.

I only bought one, but you have my wheels spinning again.

M14medic. Me and a buddy bought 2 heavy barrel kits and went for a drive today and picked them up. same numbers on the barrels as yours, his is dated like yours but mine is 8/83 and I believe a NM. Stamped between the gas system and flash hider on the top of the barrel. Really impressed with these.

Okay John, so is it true about a "golden age" for norc rifles? Specifically receivers? I've got a norc stamped 2013 (or 2014....I can't remember now) and one stamped M14s (an 07 I think?) I've heard the newer norincos are not as well put together as the ones from the early 00's. Is that true? The action on the older one seems to feel smoother. I know they haven't made parts for decades now (though I hear tale they are spooling up again) and are now scraping the bottom as far as qc is concerned? I'm trying to decide which one to build off of...

I will trade a glass m14 stock with all metal for one of the sniper stocks in nice condition

I'll do that deal. Saves me the trouble of repairing/fixing and filling a sniper to turn it back into a standard!

The ones I have are all 6/7 out of 10. Hey show some use, but only one of them is "beat-up"....

I'm not sure..... lol

I wasn't really in the scene until '09 on, and I was a dabbler until 2014 or so.

I can say this, no matter the problem with the rifle I have only seen 1 Chi-com receiver that was out of spec (unsafe to use/fire) and it was an '09.

99% of the bolts I have seen from before 2009 are quite good. I have replaced over a dozen bolts "Post 2012" that were trash. About 25% of Post 2012 receivers I have seen didn't want to take USGI or commercial aftermarket sights.

If you have a side marked receiver that says "CJA SFLD Mich" they are pretty much money.

In all reality, if your USGI bolt will fit into the receiver and pass all the safety checks (safety bridge, bolt doesn't drop below the safety bridge when moved to the rear, etc) and the rear sight pocket is milled properly, then that's something you can work with!
