IDF M14 parts kits picture thread!

I'm curious to see what markings are on the standard barrels.

Now I know I should have pulled the trigger on a heavy. Oh well

Standard Profile GI Barrels should have markings like this ( Dates and heat codes will change ) but the drawing number ( 7790190 ) is used for all standard weight chrome plated USGI barrels

H-R 7790190 8-61-T ------- Harrington & Richardson
TRW 7790190 12-63 BR ------ TRW
Winchester – 7790190 – JUL -63-39R ------ Winchester
SAK - 7790190 - 2-69-1-6845 ------ Saco Lowell
SA - 7790190 8-67 BU36 ------ Springfield Armoury

Other match barrels may have a marking similar to SAK-7791382-3-76-8098240 NM

Well then....I guess this one is money! It's almost a shame to tear it apart as its the nicest norc I've come across. If that's the case with later bolts I might do some building on it as well. Maybe take the bolt and fit it to the later norc.

If your older one is an '07, I'm not sure I would build off it, if the '13/14 is in spec. The '07s seem to demand a bit of a premium.

07 yes.
Really? I had no idea...the new shorty is not great though. Specifically the op rod chanel. It's fine as is but I would hate to waste a genuine parts kit on it. Maybe I can sell it with the black feather and pick up another one. Or keep the blackfeather...or something. I dunno.

Every USGI op-rod, that I have installed, that was "in-altered" from its as-issued state, had to be trimmed a bit to fit the Chinese receivers. Some were quick and easy, some took an hour or more to fit. I wouldn't sell anything until your parts kit arrives. Check for fit and function on both receivers and then make your choice!

Maybe you will wind up keeping both and get a 3rd! :D

what are other years like spec wise? the one I plan to build off is a 2012 Norinco made receiver

This should help.

The year doesn't really matter. What matters is if the receiver is in spec or not! Your odds of getting a receiver "sight unseen" that is in spec are better in the late '90s and through the '00s.

Post 2012 I would need to look the beast over before shelling out some coin.

how much is an 07 with these marking worth? i have one, bought at a local gun shop in 07, think it came from bell distributers

Personally, I think a used Chi-com bone stock rifle is worth $450, full stop. A 2007 marked receiver is worth another $150 to me (so $600). An '09 I would pay $550 for.

That said I have been burned with a '09.... So I'm not terribly sure they are worth any extra.... but the post '09s seem to have more issues out of the box.

I'm with John on this one. I've had some good luck with 03, 04, 05, 06 and 07 receivers but I've been lucky. I just did an 09 receiver , rebuilt it with a USGI parts kit and then everything worked out perfectly. The test firing was great with brass mic'ing out to 6 thou every time. So that would be 1.630" (which is zero on the SAAMI GO gauge) plus 6 thou = 1.636" headspace! Life is great. I shoulda offered to buy that one off my client! ha ha ha ha ha

Never tried any 2011, or 2012 or 2013 and later receivers yet.....

Remember, I'm not a gunsmith.... Just a tweaker and competitive shooter and now a Bell Technician (fiber optic, not voice or TV YET)

Cheers,
Barney

@M14 Medic: Thanks for being such a great resource for M14's! I see on your site, the USGI kit deal: so we need to supply the receiver to complete the build, and that you suggest the most cost effective way to get a receiver is to buy a Norc 305? From the LRB site, receivers begin at $859 USD, and all the cross border hassles that would come with it. (found some more info since initial posting, so I think I found my answer).

Pretty much!

You should be able to pick-up a used OEM chi-com rifle for under $600 to your door. Likely closer to $500. New ones are what, $650?

All of the unused chi-com parts could be sold for $400 or so, bbl=80, Gas ass= 80, bolt= 100, trigger assy= 100 stock and other small bits=$70. I do for-see a drop in values over the next little bit as the "spares" hit the open market over the next 6 months or so.

All done and said, if you started with a HB kit, you would have a HB rifle for about $1500.

An LRB or Bula receiver will cost you $850 USD plus import ($250) and exchange and taxes (add 50%). Around $1650 CDN add the $1300 from the parts kit add in the cost of "smithing" and you are at $3300 CDN. Which is still cheaper than an LRB built rifle from wolverine....

I, myself, REALLY like the idea of an LRB build, but when i can (net cost) buy 5 or 6 receivers, it's hard to spend the $$!

Anyone picked up a standard weight barrel kit yet? Are they GI barrels or something more special?

Kinda jealous of the guys that snagged the medium weight kits :) those barrels look sweet
