IDF M14 parts kits picture thread!

Ordered my parts kit this morning, paid for it and settled in with a coffee to think of options for this build. Phone rang and it was Wolverine, I had asked for a heavy barrel kit but they sold out fast! But hey, someone canceled there order and I got it! What luck!! Gotta win sometimes

I remembered Tactical Teacher's advice and bought 2...one heavy barrel and one standard. Pretty excited to build another M14...just when I thought I was done, they pulled me back in! Lol!
I'll post pics when they arrive.

This may sounds quite amateur, but I think I need a bit of help with finding all the stamps on my parts kit in order to better understand what I've got here :p The short forms I can figure out, but their locations on the parts are a bit tougher.

Google "image" is your friend. Trust me, you will be an expert on the markings in no time! Then you will take another look at your Norinco or Poly and wonder why?

Enjoy the building kit process! It's all great learning!

My google-fu is strong most times, and I spent 2 hours trying to find a good descriptive page with keywords, but I had never thought to google "part name" serial number and look at where the pictures are showing me haha.

So it looks like I got:

Heavy Barrel: General Dynamics Armanent Systems, Inc (Saco)
Op Rod: Saco (SAK)
Bolt: Textile Machine Works
Trigger Group Housing: Springfield Armory
Hammer: Harrington and Richardson marked "HR-N"
Can't get at any code for the Safety yet.
Elevation Knob : Wico Electric - WCE - Made for TRW or HRA
Windage Knob : Wright Manufacturing - Made for TRW or HRA

Unfortunately, not a single TRW piece, but oh well. It's been fun learning about it all. Seems Saco made some fine pieces over its time which proved my blatent ignorance of them wrong. Wouldnt mind matching the rest up. Worst case I build my frankenstein and love the way it shoots haha.

(My multiple edits are as I learn more about where my part parkings are, I'm adding them to the list)

These kits are like a box of chocolates..... You know the rest!

All USGI parts meet the spec so whoever made your USGI parts made them all to the specification and that means we'll be dead (yup, all of us) before these parts wear out!

Cheers,

Barney

dude.... those who really know thier m14 gear..... cream thier fricken jeans when SAK parts land in thier lap. (saco-lowell)
SAK barrels and oprods are the pinnacle in my books
TRW and SAK were the leading edge of machining processes at the time and utilized technology that at the time was being developed for the aerospace industry.
Thier barrels were made using an air gauge tolerance method, unlike the other manufactures of the time.

Highly prized parts man..... killer score.

any of our American M14 bretheren are probably just flipping right out about now...... do you guys have any concept on what these parts would be worth to an american m14 nut??
we have truly scored HUGE LOL

All I've been doing is researching SAK like mad all day. You're definitely right, they are regarded very highly the world over for their machining processes and parts. Like I said, the learning process has turned me from a "What do I even have here?" kind of guy to a "Wow, I can't believe what I have here!" Guy.

I *want* to feel bad for the Americans that see this thread and our parts but.... I just don't :p

I have the following from the parts kit to trade for TRW equivalent:

OpRod: Winchester , markings "7267064 , 6618, Winchester Logo" . ontop of this is stamped a Hebrew letter, and the # "871"

Barrel: H&R 7790190 7-62 AE (July 1962)

Rear Sight Base, w/ Rear Sight Cover: H&R B8
