I bought a Nordic Components extension for mine. Casey at TacOrd is great to deal with. The NC extension is aluminum and has a removable end cap. You will need to buy a spring and follower for it (I bought the NC spring and follower too).

CSC has the S&J Stoeger extensions in stock. They are steel and come with a spring and follower. End cap is NOT removable.

In his defense, he was out for all the SR and 3G matches last season.

And with his rifle.... you dont want him standing beside you firing a rapid string. (My ears still have a ring to them)
Mind you watching him shoot urban prone could be entertaining.
 
Just picked up a stoeger M3500 (3.5" chamber) where can I pick up upgrade parts for it for 3gun? Looking for specifically an M2 extractor?

As a shotty newb I'm a bit confused.
I went out and bought some dummy 2.75" shells to practice loading my versa-max and it barely holds 5 up the tube. Tried some 3" slugs and it won't hold 5 - on top of that if I measure my 2.75" and 3" shells they vary in OAL from manufacturer and type.
So wtf? I get that this thing is regulated to hold no more than 5x 3" shells - is the interpretation that a shell is in actual fact 3.0" in overall length, and thus the tube allows for 15.x" overall travel in the tube?

If that is the case, I think I'm starting to understand why people get extensions...

Just get the Tac Ord extension and be done with it.

This is not uncommon. My 1301 had the same issue.

FYI... Shotgun shell lengths are named for their length after firing (i.e. chamber length). Most often they are about .5" shorter in length before firing than described on the box (e.g. 2.75" shells are about 2.25" in length).

Your goal is to size your magazine and extension/limiter to hold about 5.75 x <Size of Chamber> shells. If you have a 3" chamber, you should be able to hold 6 x 2.75" shells (but not 6 x 3"). If you have a 3.5" chamber, you should be able to hold 7 x 2.75" shells (but not 6 x 3.5").

That way you are never exceeding the 5 x <Size of Chamber> magazine limit for semi's, because the 6th chamber-size shell won't fit in the magazine. Make sense?

Bottom line, if you want to max things out, you'll need an extension. Whichever way you go (tricked out VersaMax or NC extensions), Casey at TacOrd is great to deal with.

Sorry, I put a +2 on it and it now holds 5 x 3" and 6 x 2 3/4" but I had to silicon in a piece of doweling to keep it legal. Without the doweling it would actually hold 7 3". I am guessing that removing the spring retainer may have helped add some room even without the extension but I didn't actually check.

Thanks for the more detailed explanation JC. I'm in the market for a 1301 so just looking to know as much as I can about them.
