I broke it, and now I'm sad

someone better call the reloading manual publishers.

they've had it wrong for all these years.

Do you even know what .308 and 7.62 means ? ... Let me inform you, Its inches and Millimeters, figure it out ... Unreal

The bullets .... are not the same diameter

why dont you go and put .308 win in a 7.62x51 chamber ... pm me when you've found your face

i realized the typing error, i was resizing 7.62x51, but i do also know you can run 7.62 Russian, and thank G*d i wasn't trying because i was unaware of it be berdan primed

Even if they were a different diameter (which they're not) a .311 bullet can safely be fired out of a .308 barrel with no adverse effects. Have a look at early mini 30s.

There are plenty of articles that state the .308 win stamped cartridges are not safe to run in a NATO cut chamber

and SAAMI says they are interchangeable. Your point? Would I listen to a real organization and my reloading manuals (pics were included above by the way, where they list the carts together) over your questionable advice? Absolutely.

Funny .. the manufactures dont say they are interchangeable ... do what ever you want

That has to do with headspace, the web of the cartridge and brass thickness, and it is continually debated. There is the argument about pressure differences, although one is measured in CUP and the other in PSI, which causes a lot of confusion. I've even seen the debate over shoulder angle? But never have I heard anybody say that the bullets are a different diameter. As has been pointed out - even the reloading manuals list both as the same diameter

First, that's not what I was talking about. I'm talking about firing .311 bullets from a 7.62x39 or 54, and firing them in a .308 barrel. (Safe to do)

Second, the reason SOME folks reccomend against shooting .308 cartridges in a 7.62x51 chamber, has to do with chamber specs and brass thickness, NOT bullet diameter. The bullets themselves are identical.

Hes new guys give him a break. At least we know he's not sunray as he came back to argue his misinformation.

Good point. And at least he's erring on the side of caution. Ole Sunray had a habit of dropping advice bombs that swung the other way.

Anyone still see him over on Gulf Oscar Charlie? Or was he put out to pasture there too?
