I live close to town so shooting them isn't an option.

Do I need a special permit/license to live trap coyotes myself? I live in Ontario. They are coming into my yard and have started standing off with my dog.

Plan would be relocation

Thanks
EB

Hard to use foot traps in town as thy catch anything that steps on them. Cage trap would be very tough to catch a coyote.try a scare them with firecrackers or somthing .you are very limited in town

Good luck live trapping a coyote.... they are hard enough to trap in a conventional leg hold trap. In TO you'd be best to inform animal control. Not that I think that they'll help you much. Best to keep your pets indoors until denning time in a few more weeks!

Relocating them is illegal and one of the cruelest things you can do. They are territorial, what do you think will happen to this yote if you move him to a different turf? Same with raccoons. Kill him, or leave him be. For the record, no trapper will live trap within city limits, the bad publicity isn't worth it, plus if he traps a neighbourhood dog or cat......

Who cares? It's a coyote, there is more than enough to go around and if every non-alpha that was forced out of the pack at maturity to seek out it's own new territory was killed stepping into another territory there would be none populating new ranges and areas as they'd be killed along the way.

I have the same problem. Bylaw prohibits firearm or bow use and the township says I have to learn to coexist. All I can do is scan the backyard with a flashlight before I let my dog out at night and supervise while she's out. The coyote just stands like a dear in the headlights when I shine the flashlight on it. Fortunately, she's well trained standard poodle and will come when called. Always supervise and never let your dog chase one into the bushes. I keep a Cold Steel survival spear by the backdoor just in case. There's always lots of missing kitty posters in my neighbourhood.

Climb a tree on your property and bait the trunk.
Drop a down rigger bawl on said Yote`
Animal control won't deal with a wild trespasser on your property in city limits?
Really?
I sure wouldn't renew a dog tag for suck disregard.
Kamloops had a coyote problem a few years back and enough pets went missing
and the outrage justified the CO's to act appropriately.

Think about this.................if your pets aren't safe back there..........are your kids?

If it's my dog or my kids at stake, I'd do what needs doing.

No, I don't know what that bang was. I did see the neighbor kids playing with firecrackers the other day though. Darn kids.

crossbow!

How big is your dog? A German Shepard and larger are more than able to kill a coyote.

Some wire might be your friend.
