Whats your opinion on muzzle brakes?

This thread is good.

I only have brakes on my ARs, not sure if I would ever put one on a hunting rifle but I also wouldn't become a snowflake if someone was using a braked rifle.

When I posted about rules, they were the range rules voted on and implemented by the executive of the range which at the time consisted of seven members. The rules were implemented to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for our 2500 members, and if a few people were not happy with the rules, they were free to go elsewhere. As for banning things, we did ban tannerite, but muzzle brakes were not banned, because for the most part, the members showed consideration for other shooters, and as for the self entitled people that showed no consideration for others, their memberships were terminated. Most people are pretty reasonable, but some are so stupid, that they were propping steel plates up on the berms, or placing targets on top of the berms, and one individual was so clueless, that he posted a video on facebook of his activities with his AR-15 in one of our handgun bays. As posted previously, the executive was elected to manage the range for 2500 members, and we weren't about to let a few individuals ruin the experience for the rest. Yes we had some people whining and complaining, and coincidentally, those people never volunteered to accept any positions within the club, and they were always to busy to help out when the club needed some volunteer labor for a day. Don't tell me that you are too busy to help out, if you show up to shoot, on a scheduled range clean up day, and then as soon as you realize that you can't shoot until the work is done, you get back into your vehicle and leave.
surprised you would suggest slapping another person at the range was not prohibited with what appears to be a seven member executive that appears to be on top of every member having an enjoyable place to shoot.

How would you feel if someone gave you a hard slap on the side of the head as you were concentrating on shooting? And most ranges likely don't have specific rules about slapping other shooters on the side of the head either.

All my precision rifles have brakes.
None of my hunting rifles have brakes.

Shot friend's 300WM in that light T3; not pleasant. He wanted a brake, told him NO brakes for hunting rifle; suck it up.

Come on Brian, you know what that stmt meant; it was an analogy, NOT an invitation for violence. Time to move on.

You stand shoulder to shoulder when hunting? Nice friend you are. Mandating what he can and can't use. You tell him the brand of ammo and caliber too?

Burnaby, why do all your precision rifles have brakes? Almost all competition prohibits braked rifles, prs style is about the only discipline of precision shooting where they're allowed and there's next to no events in this country. Even if you don't compete I still think it's silly to build and develop skills on a system that is excluded from competition.

Yes I do. I roll the ammo, supplied everything including free 300WM brass. Also supply all the tools to clean and tune up the used rifle. Charge him 80c a round for 300WM. Yup, lousy friend.

The no brake for hunting is for friend's benefit in the event during buck fever forgets the ear pro.

Competition days are long gone thanks to the messed up back. A day of Vedder river fishing or even local mountain skiing is unpleasant. Prone is painful.
Relegated to bench shooting so long range paper and steel is the only option left. Luv to compete, PRS looks like a lot of fun, mind is willing, body does not want surgery.

Kamloops F-class has a bench division if that interests you. Lots of turnout and very fun!

Thanks, will look into it. Co-worker moved to Kamloops last yr, invited me to go chironomid fly fishing with him. Checked out the area, looks like some nice spot for long range shooting.

Not aware of any range within an hour's drive from Burnaby that is more than 300m (at Mission). Have to look further into Vedder/Chilliwack area.

Let's make it really complicated.
Analogy vs Straw man.

Analogy Definition

An analogy is a comparison between two things that are usually thought to be different from each other, but that have something in common.

We are civilized folks; let us error on the side of civility.
Additionally smacking folks with gun in hand does not bold well for "Live Long and Prosper"
he may have meant something else, but that is not the way it reads.

If just an analogy, why the insinuation there are no range rules prohibiting abusive conduct by their members such as assaulting eachother via slapping?

Making the comparison is one thing, saying you are allowed to within the rules of the range is another

If you two could take this to PM so the rest of us could discuss muzzle brakes that would be great.....

Not to worry, I am done trying to explain something to someone that can't or simply doesn't want to comprehend my posts.
