50bmg is approved for the range, assaulting other members is against the rules of conduct each member signed and is also a criminal offense.

Wow, this thread went down hill fast.
Brian46, I don't think he's advocating violence. It's a funny example...I agree. Worded weird perhaps as well.
I don't have to deal with Brakes...I live in the country :)
To me they seem like a way to handle a rifle that's beyond what you can comfortably shoot. Perhaps a 50 is fun...I've never had the desire to shoot something that loud with huge recoil. They seem a bit beyond sensible to me, but have fun with them.
Some guys like really loud Harleys and piped out diesels too...there comes a point where they are obnoxious.
Each person's point is different, hence our squabbling.
And the 'injury card' doesn't cut hay with me, btw. Bad luck or bad choices is what is the front story on the " Well, I have a bad shoulder "
That dog don't hunt IMO. Get a smaller gun.
Are loud brakes like those annoying folks with the super bright blue headlights? You squint a bit, mumble something about "...annoying ####..." and get back to driving? Aircraft powerful lights are great for backroads...obnoxious as hell on the highway.
I suppose if a buddy said " Let's go to the range and you can try my 50 BMG !" I'd likely rely "Let's go early or late...they are pretty loud for folks around them "
Problem solved...in my world. This won't fly with some folks...not a big deal in my world.
I live in the country:)

MODERATORS.....how can this member continue when he insults both my wife and I as a NAZI affiliate in any way, shape or form? Please PM me if I am in any way misconducting my concerns in reacting to such a deep insult.,

My wife and I are deeply upset over his written insinuations.

That derail pretty quick.
From muzzle brake on hunting rifle to 50BMG Concussion device, to head slaps to totally overreaction to common internet terms.
Another normal CGN night.
LOL, isn't that kinda like,
The pot calling the kettle BL..ahh ... Dark :)

well who ever is wasting their time on this one.....the MODS are copied on the rude comments.
Up to them if such insults are acknowledged on this forum.

I respect the members of this fine forum but not the insulting individuals who prowl tonight.

I would never insult as we have endured. My wife....really??

Well, on the bright side...I did learn a little about brakes earlier in the thread.
Kinda spiraled down whilst I was sleeping though.
And yeah...might as well lock it down.
Or else make some stuff disappear.
Stay safe

I have a vais brake on my 308. Not for th recoil but for the accuracy and speed in follow up shots. As for the noise, I do not wear hearing protection while hunting and do not find my ears ringing after taking a shot or two.

Last year at the range I set out my 308 and an older guy commented on the brake before I even took a shot (he picked the spot beside me) I shot a couple and then switched to my 30-06 without a brake and he said the 308 didn't bother him at all but the 30-06 was loud and had a lot of pressure. Obviously out of courtesy I sighted it in and put it away.

I also get my hearing checked annually for work and can hear just fine, before someone says I'm probably deaf anyways.

Given that reacquiring a moving target, or acquiring a new target, rather than recoil, or the time necessary to cycle the action, is the element that's most likely responsible for the delay between shots, how does adding a brake to a .308 speed up subsequent shots? It might feel like it does, but saying that the brake is responsible for reducing the time between shots would be tough to qualify under field conditions.

As for the fellow who was more disturbed by the blast from your .30/06, its not surprising. I recall years ago a fellow shooting his MK V .300 Weatherby from the next bench commented negatively on the blast from my 22" .30/06; my load was all the H-4831 I could crush under a 165 gr Interlock . I think secretly he was upset that my crummy Remington shot groups half the size of his, but that particular rifle was a shooter, although it didn't get the opportunity to show it off from the bench very often. There's a big difference in blast between a .308 or a .30/06 loaded with 4895, or 4064, and an '06 loaded with slow burning powder like 4831, or R-22. Of course, barrel length plays into the equation, as does wind strength and direction. If you have a short barrel rifle chambered in .30/06, your load involves a medium weight bullet, and slow burning powder, and you shoot into a headwind, you've arranged to experience .30/06 blast at it's rudest.

U even got a wife bud.....?
