Whats your opinion on muzzle brakes?

so you are fine with getting physical with people at the range over your own made up ideas? How is that working out for you assaulting people?. Not sure what range you belong to that turns a blind eye to assaulting other members on the premesis.

BTW, I have been next to and around many 50's without being the shooter and have no issue with it as the rules allow everyone to shoot that caliber at my range.

No I would not be fine with slapping other shooters, for the same reason that I wouldn't be fine with getting hit from the side with the concussive blast from a braked 50 either. And no amount of hearing protection will protect you from the concussive wave, if you are off to the side when a braked 50 is fired.

The noise and the concussion doesn't bother me.
30 cal and above does bother some folks. Anything above 22lr bothers them.
The neighbors don't like any noise.
semis flinging brass everywhere is annoying.

Seems to you folks only the things that bothers you should be banned. To have respect for everyone all shooting has to be banned cause some folks won't like it. Not sure why you don't get it, shooting is a noisy, dirty activity, someone will always hate some aspect of it. Only option is ban it all if respect for others is an issue.
How is that even related? Shooting is a noisy activity, and that's not the issue. The issue is the way the concussion blast is redirected. This can cause a fair deal of discomfort to others. I can double up on hearing protection if it's too loud, I can't do anything to mitigate the concussion blast though.

A large enough rifle with a brake can be down right painful to some , even with hearing protection.

Have a shooting line full of people, set yourself up accordingly not to cause grief for everyone, nobody around go hard.

Not sure what is so hard to comprehend for some here to respect others around them, having an activity with others around means you have to show some respect in group settings. Can't get along with or want to offend others on purpose, go elsewhere.

I used a slap as a comparison to the concussive wave produced by a braked 50 cal. I have fired a 50 cal, and I felt the wave strike my left shoulder, and it felt like a good slap. So does your range have a rule that specifically prohibits one memmber from slapping another? Just because no rule specifically mentions slapping, doesn't make slapping another member acceptable, just like exposing other members to a concussive wave as strong as a slap should not be acceptable.

A guy in the lane beside me today had a braked .50 and guess what I survived! No quarrel nothing just a "GUNS LIVE, FIRE IN THE HOLE" and bang. And my range is indoors to boot!

There's just no winning this debate here.

As for going to the right side lane with our semi autos......are the 75% or more of the range users supposed to all line up and wait for a turn at the line while leaving nearly lane empty so the 2-3 people who have issues can spread out.?

Last time I was at my range I had some casings get ejected over the divider and land in my case just striking my new ar15.....I tell ya those casing landed with thundering force and I was out of options, except to chuck the casings forwards out of my gun case and drop the lid down......dun dun dun!

How dare that guy enjoy shooting his surplus gun and shower me and my stuff 5 casings at a time....and don't even get me started on the .50cal with a brake today let's just thank the Lord he was to my right...my God what fun he was having. Sure it was loud and a concussive wave was felt but that's why good ear pro is a must even plugs and muffs. Plugs and muffs. Plugs and muffs. I could make that into a range song....

If people have issues with other people shooting guns at a gun range, regardless of caliber or brake or not, black and green, wood and blued, semi or single ect. It might be time to find a rod and reel club...maybe try shuffle board I hear that's a hoot. Or go buy your own range or your own property to shoot at, since you probably wouldn't even like any restricted guns unless it had a cylinder......(ah Bull####!t auto loaders, in the old raspy grandpa voice I do so well with the double hand wave included)

OK Friday night posting is over for me now...I gotta rest my achy muzzle blasted bones for church I mean the gun range on Sunday.

WOW........I haven't read every post here but there are definitely some very strong opinions. I have a Steyr HS 50 with the tank style muzzle brake and I would not shoot it within 50 ft of anybody else. The concussion is evil and is very disconcerting even for the shooter. Whitehorse Rifle and Pistol Club banned 50s with brakes and I can understand why........This is by far the most unpleasant rifle to be any where near when firing it even the shooter gets blasted, no recoil to speak of but the shock wave from the brake is almost unbearable..........I love it but I would never want to be at a bench next to it, or the next one over, or the next one over...................

Wow, some strong opinions for sure. I could care less what other people want to shoot. I just think brakes are an overated gun fashion accessory. Putting them on 15lb .308's is not about anything else. But if thats your thing giver. Myself...I'd rather feel the recoil.

50bmg is approved for the range, assaulting other members is against the rules of conduct each member signed and is also a criminal offense.

Is youR wife also forcing you to be the spelling Nazi?
So where is your quality contribution?

BTW: In Canada one does not graduate in grade 9. Anyone educated knows we graduate in grade 12. Some continue on to post secondary. Obviously you graduate with an English Degree. What university did you graduate from? Just a bachelor or did you continue on to Master and PhD?
